Finally, Jude talks about mastering what you have. No amount of money is going to cover for a sound tech struggling with the basics. Jude has some great resources on his Youtube channel, Audio Buff.

In this week’s Podcast Mike Thornton is joined by Korey Pereira and Chris Roberts. With the return of lockdown conditions in the UK they revisit the subject of remote workflows. How has their experience of remote working in Post been and what have they learned since last year?
Episode 24 Pt. 1 - Jude Buffington joins us on the first part helping us to decide what we need when looking for a new mixing console.
Jude starts by encouraging us to define the need. What mixer you bring home will likely depend on many factors including the style of your church services. When you look closely at what you need you might find that a soundboard is not the priority. Instead, you might do better to invest in training, mics, or a host of other options.
Jude goes on to talk about analyzing the options. You decided you need a mixer, your budget should not be the first thing to consider. Instead, look at the options and find what your church needs. Need a more familiar, linear, analog mixer? Or the digital with all of its menus and presets? Are you using it to live stream?
Jude shares a few of his favorite brands to use. These include Shure, Electro-Voice, Allen & Heath, and Soundcraft.
Finally, Jude shares a concern that he has with church leaders upgrading technology in order to get struggling sound techs to quit. He makes the claim that church leaders should confront issues with grace and Christian love and that techs should accept direction with grace and humility. We are all on the same team, trying to accomplish the same goals.

Don “Duff” McDuffie is a composer, musician, and producer, who has toured with Chubby Checker and leads a church choir. He came to Mackie’s attention when we put out the call for a new theme song for The Ins & Outs. Duff’s composition (which has been stuck in our heads for weeks now) was the winner, and you’ll get to hear it at the top of this episode!

In a new, shorter format podcast Julian Rodgers, Eli Krantzberg and Chris Vandevivier discuss their audio “lightbulb moments”. Those significant moments when we notice or learn something about audio which stays with us, learning something new and opening up new ideas.
Mike Thornton, Audrey Martinovich and William Wittman talk about experimentation in the studio. With so much production happening in private studios where the clock isn’t being watched in the same way as it is in a commercial setting, is there more justification for a more open ended approach to recording. Does time pressure keep focus or stifle creativity?
Noah Guthrie is a singer-songwriter on the rise: his cover songs on YouTube led to viral fame, a role on Glee, and most importantly, a chance for his original music to be heard. Jamie Hernandez talks to Noah about how he handled sudden fame, how his family keeps him humble, and his birdwatching hobby. Interspersed through the show are three original songs performed by Noah himself.
