S4E3 The SurveYOUR Podcast – APC Assessor Feedback – Room for Improvement

S4E3 The SurveYOUR Podcast – APC Assessor Feedback – Room for Improvement

Phew! That felt good.  James and Jon get the frustrations of poor final assessment attending APC Candidates off their collective Assessor chests.  Some 40+ assessments between them this session (1, 2022) and the experience was not all good.

The boys are seasoned APC Assessor/Chairs with some 35+ years of assessing experience between them and probably in excess of 3,000 assessments delivered.  Plus, Jon has trained over 8,000 assessors to date.  They are also passionate and committed about how they deliver the APC assessment process and WANT candidates to pass.

This podcast is a serious but well-mannered rant about the massive ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT that candidates and their counsellors need to hear and smarten up their delivery so the assessment can be less of a car crash and more of a sailing home with flying colours.

If you have any thoughts, views, or differences of opinion, then get in touch and come along for a chat.  The podcast doors are always unlocked and wide open.

As always, the SurveYOUR podcast is a joy to produce, and this episode is a brilliant opportunity for James, Jon to do what they do best… have a jolly good chat!

‘RICS Levitt Review – Part 7 – David Sandbrook FRICS

We hope you have enjoyed all of the previous 6 parts of our Levitt Review Podcast.

James and Jon were delighted to host the Levitt Review podcast finale, part 7, with David Sandbrook FRICS, Governing Council member and Chair of RICS Levitt Review Recommendation Steering Group (SteerCo2, The Sequel).

David joined the podcast as our first Minerals Surveyor!  The boys had a great chat with David about his role and oversight of the Levitt Review recommendations.  His experience in the industry and Governing council makes him absolutely the right person for the job.

In addition to David’s new role, the discussion was littered with interesting experiences, canaries, ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level Surveying, Derby Mountain Rescue and the fantastic news that David’s son (Gareth) has recently achieved his Charter MRICS.

As James and Jon bring this Levitt Review series to a close, David’s insights were invaluable to help us understand the work going on behind the scenes to rebuild our institution.  Rest assured this is not the last time you have heard from David…

Our thanks to David for spending time with us reflecting and looking to the future.  The commitment and hard work David and his GC colleagues are putting in over the next few months can only have a positive outcome for our Institution.  Thank you.

The Levitt Review has been a pivotal moment in our institutions 150+ year history and essential membership reading to reflect on what has gone before and the amazing opportunity of what lies ahead.

James and Jon have embarked on a mission to provide an audio / podcast version just for you!  There will be quite a few episodes with James and Jon, and some amazing guests, as they work their way through the detail.

James and Jon were part of the GC19 group who supported the 4 NED’s that were dismissed and also pursued mistruths and incorrect press releases about the information and awareness provided to the GC19 members.  Needless to say, now vindicated and apologised to by RICS, the experience is still very raw and conjures up a myriad of emotions as the boys reflect on the experience.

It is worthy of note that James and Jon will reflect on the past but are most keen to stare into the future and see what an amazing institution we can build upon the lessons learnt from the Levitt Review.

As always, the SurveYOUR podcast is a joy to produce, and this episode is a brilliant opportunity for James and Jon to do what they do best… have a jolly good chat!

    Christmas Special

James and Jon (our resident Chartered Magicians and Wizards) take a moment to wish all their listeners and subscribers a very happy Christmas.  It has been an interesting year and one the boys look back fondly upon as they have started to achieve their goal of putting pride back into their profession!

‘RICS Levitt Review – Part 6 – Nick Maclean FRICS'

We hope you have enjoyed parts 1 to 5 of our Levitt Review Podcast, so far…

James and Jon were delighted to host part 6 of the podcast with Nick Maclean FRICS, the Interim Chair of RICS Governing Council.

Nick joined the podcast from Dubai, immediately reminding the boys of the fantastic British weather, as he resides in the Middle East winter, at a slightly chilly 20 degrees and sunny!

A podcast littered with unique insights and some great anecdotes, it was a pleasure and honour to be able to discuss so candidly Nick’s experience, from inside GC and throughout the Levitt review process.  Nick left us with food for thought and an insight into the changing face of RICS, giving a vision for the future, as we pick ourselves up, dust off and get back to working together for the greater good.

James and Jon have reflected on their experiences and heard from Steve, Dayle and Anthony.  As the SurveYOUR podcast Levitt review series approaches its twilight episodes the boys can draw it all to a close, satisfied that inviting Nick into the discussion has provided the opportunity to ensure a balanced coverage.

Our thanks to Nick for spending time with us reflecting and looking to the future.  The commitment and hard work Nick has put in over the last few months to keep the GC ship afloat (and James and Jon appreciate the internal GC workload), can only have a positive outcome for our Institution.  Thank you.

We hope you have enjoyed parts 1, 2 3 and 4 of our Levitt Review Podcast, so far…

James and Jon were delighted to host part 5 of the podcast with a fellow Chartered Surveyor and friend, Anthony Walker FRICS.

Anthony joins the boys to give a different perspective of someone who has come along an interesting eclectic career path and alongside that engaged as an RICS member on many levels in many RICS board roles.

James and Jon have reflected on their experiences, they have heard Steve and Dayle’s side of the proceedings and Anthony brings a new perspective to our Levitt series in an interesting and much needed ‘Membership Focus’, reflecting on what has happened and what he feels, from his many social media posts and interactions, the membership is looking to RICS to provide…

Our thanks to Anthony for spending time with us reflecting and looking to the future.  The membership engagement Anthony demonstrates is something James and Jon fully appreciate, and it is a true labour of love for the betterment of our Institution.  Thank you.

We hope you have enjoyed parts 1, 2 and 3 of our Levitt Review Podcast, so far…

James and Jon were delighted to host part 4 of the podcast with their good friend and fellow Chartered Surveyor, Dayle Bayliss FRICS.

Dayle was the driving force of the GC19 group who have all been vindicated by the Levitt Review.

James and Jon have reflected on their experiences, they have heard Steve Williams FRICS NED’s side of the proceedings and now wanted to hear Dayle’s side of the story with GC19 and reflect on her experience as a well respected Chartered Surveyor and Governing Council 2019 member.

As always, the SurveYOUR podcast is a joy to produce, and this episode is a brilliant opportunity for James and Jon to do what they do best… have a jolly good chat!

‘RICS Levitt Review – Part 1 – Introduction & Background’

The Levitt Review has been a pivotal moment in our institutions 150+ year history and essential membership reading to reflect on what has gone before and the amazing opportunity of what lies ahead.

However, if you cannot stomach reading the 450+ page report, but would really like to know the detail, with some bonus reflection…  Well, James and Jon have embarked on a mission to provide an audio / podcast version just for you!  There will be quite a few episodes with James and Jon, and some amazing guests, as they work their way through the detail.
