How To Live Unapologetically Self-Expressed In All Areas of Life: Queer Dating & Parenting, Creating Family Boundaries, & Mentoring the Next Generation w/ Matt Corker

Today, I have a conversation with my friend Matt Corker about living unapologetically yourself in all areas of your life.

Matt opens up about his experience being a gay father and husband and how he had to become the queer role model and representation he needed to create a life he really wanted. He shares how he found the man of his dreams by following the 5 date rule for one whole year. We also talk about how vital it is to create healthy family boundaries with heterosexual family members if we want to living full expressed and free.

Matt and I both have a deep calling to mentor the next generation of LGBQTIA+ humans and create a new future that truly benefits marginalized communities and all of humanity. We discuss the intentional steps we are taking to do this and how you can be a part of this movement with us.

Matt is a proud gay dad to his precious 2-year old Sasha with the love of his life Chad, his husband of 5 years. He’s an inspiring coach and is passionate about helping organizations succeed by developing vision-led leaders. Most recently he was the Chief Operating Officer of Smash + Tess, overseeing their operations, sales, and people teams. Matt holds a MBA from the Copenhagen Business School, is a 200 E-RYT yoga teacher, and is a two time lip-sync battle champion.

Queer Parenthood, Advocacy, & Navigating Reproductive Assistance with Georgia Noonan, RN

Queer Parenthood, Advocacy, & Navigating Reproductive Assistance with Georgia Noonan, RN

On today's episode we sit down with Georgia Noonan, a Registered Labor & Delivery Nurse and soon to be Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, to discuss becoming parents as LGBTIQ individuals, ways to advocate for yourself and your family amidst a broken healthcare system, navigating ART (assisted reproductive technology) and finding the right practitioner for you, as well as an often overlooked yet common condition that plays an important role in fertility.

Georgia is a soon-to-be Women's Health Nurse Practitioner with under four weeks remaining in her graduate program at Frontier Nursing University. Originally on track to be a certified nurse midwife, Georgia is incredibly passionate about all things pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum. She is an advocate for birth justice and empowerment and helping birthing individuals achieve their birth outcomes and avoid the obstetrical violence and trauma she witnessed firsthand as a labor and delivery nurse for six years before returning to grad school to more actively implement the birth and women's healthcare revolution our nation demands. As a queer woman herself, she is both personally and professionally motivated to work with LGBTIQ individuals after graduation and address the rampant health disparities her community faces. The provision of Evidence Based Care and Information is of paramount importance to her and she recently became part of the Evidence Based Birth® instructor and childbirth educator team. In April, she launched her platform Birthing Beings to help connect and provide all of these services and more to clients in need.

You can also find Georgia on LUNA Mother Co's platform teaching our Childbirth Education Course as well as our Preparing For Postpartum Series. To connect with Georgia visit www.Birthing Beings.com or follow her on Instagram

The Unlearning Process | Stephen Stratton on Transgender Parenting

The Unlearning Process | Stephen Stratton on Transgender Parenting

The mission of Modern Dadhood is to meet and learn from dads whose fatherhood experiences are different than our own. In this episode, guest Stephen Stratton gives us some new perspective and helps us realize the transgender taboo we grew up with doesn't exist in the same way for our kids. If we can bypass the stubborn notion that we might offend someone by asking the wrong question, we might find there’s a ton we have in common simply by being present, engaged dads.

Adam begins Episode 12 by recalling the recent “sweetheart dance” he attended with his kindergarten-aged daughter, and how it differed from their first time attending last year. The guys introduce guest Stephen Stratton, a stay-at-home father of one, who happens to be transgender. Stephen  shares his compelling story from his childhood as a “tomboy” in rural Connecticut, through planning his own family, becoming a father, and raising his son with his partner Josh. Stephen candidly answers questions about his own story, about his son who was assigned female at birth but now chooses “he/him” pronouns, and about how to have a conversation with a transgender person without  being disrespectful, pissing them off, or sounding like a dope. Topics include:

    •  Getting past the instinct to avoid people who are different than you
    •  Language and questions that are appropriate (or inappropriate) regarding transgenderism
    •  Discovering as a teen that the feelings Stephen had been experiencing had a name, and that it was an option he could pursue
    •  Stephen’s desire to be a parent, and his personal goals surrounding fatherhood
    •  Being a pregnant man (without turning heads!)
    •  How a transgender person handles discovering the sex of his baby
    •  How to talk to our kids about sex/gender/the transgender community
    •  Our children don’t have the same baggage that we have from our childhoods when this was considered much more taboo

The show wraps up with a riveting “So That’s a Thing Now” (spoiler alert... the twin boy toddlers are fighting! When will it stop?) and the guys gush about Marc’s cherished  Hopsulator Trio by BrüMate. Turns out, Modern Dadhood listeners can get 15% off your first order by using the code “DADHOOD”. So use it!

Thanks to Tanner at Portland Pod for hosting and engineering our session with Stephen.

    Ziel in honderd stukjes

    Ziel in honderd stukjes

Episode 24: Fill In the Blank

Episode 24: Fill In the Blank
Kate got a new pregnancy pillow and the only ones who love it more than she does are the dogs. Kate and Karyne’s friend sent them some hemorrhoid pads and other must-have post-pregnancy items, and they now have a place to put everything because they organized the garage! But the most important news of all is that the baby’s due date is on Beyonce’s birthday. You’re welcome, little Levy.
