Drag Queen: glitter sulle ferite (parte 2)

Drag Queen: glitter sulle ferite (parte 2)
    Buon ascolto.

    #417: "You're Gay" w/ Matteo Lane

    #417: "You're Gay" w/ Matteo Lane

Standup Comedian Matteo Lane comes on Ari Shaffir’s Skeptic Tank this week to tell me all about gay culture. It’s FASCINATING. And it’s changed so much since I first discovered gays back in college.

Matteo Lane is one of the most interesting and rational people to talk to at the back table of the Comedy Cellar and I’m glad to finally get him on the podcast. We talked about Prep, blasting loads into butts, Grinder, cheating, and anything else I could think of to ask him about what it’s like being gay these days. Such a fun one.

    Episode 444: Shamir

    Episode 444: Shamir

On today's episode I talk to musician Shamir Bailey. Originally from North Las Vegas, Shamir's music career took off relatively quickly after signing to XL Recordings at the age of 19. The push and pull between what Shamir wanted to do and what the label wanted him to do though eventually ended with them dropping him a few years later. After a psychiatric hospitalization, Shamir began making the music he wanted to make, and his latest album Cataclysm, just released in March, is incredible.

S2E20, Part 2: Sister Anni Coque l'Doo on the Future of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (Part of Our Sisters at 40 Series)

Forty years is a long time. That the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will celebrate that milestone this weekend speaks to the charity, creativity, and sense of community that the group brings to San Francisco.

In this podcast, Sister Anni Coque l'Doo will continue the story of her work with the Sisters. When she moved to Oakland, she joined the Ducal Council of Alameda, essentially establishing the Sisters in the East Bay. She ends the episode reflecting on what it means for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence as they celebrate their 40th anniversary this Sunday in Dolores Park.

Special thanks to Heather Jacks, through whom we were able to meet with and record three lovely drag nuns (if you missed our episodes with Sister Roma and Sister Mary Media, please go back and listen). Heather's book on the group, Sister Stories, comes out soon, and it's something that should be on every coffee table in the city.

We recorded this podcast at the Twin Peaks Tavern in March 2019.

S2E17, Part 1: Sister Mary Media on the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Origin Story (Part of Our Sisters at 40 Series)

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, like any good spiritual group, have an origin story. There are some minor quibbles, but Sister Mary Media was there.

In this podcast, Mary Media describes the political and social climate from which the Sisters came to life in 1979. She goes on to talk about how the work they did back then evolved over time to include educating the public on the dangers of STDs and AIDS before it was known as that.

Check back Thursday for Part 2, when Mary Media will take us through the nearly 40 years (it will be 40 on Easter Sunday next month) of the wonderful work that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence do.

We recorded this podcast at Sister Mary Media's house in Upper Haight in March 2019.

S2E13, Part 1: Heather Jacks on Her Nomadic Youth

This April, Heather Jacks's art book about the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, who turn 40 this year, will hit the shelves. In this podcast, we get to know Heather before she got involved with the Sisters. You'll hear how she grew up on Indian land in Oregon, graduated high school at 16, moved to Australia, joined a fundamentalist Christian church, and eventually ended up in San Francisco about a decade ago.

Check back Thursday for Part 2, when Heather will talk about the inspiration for her Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence book.

We recorded this podcast at Heritage Restaurant and Bar in February 2019.
