In this podcast, Pastor Justin breaks down what it looks like and why it's necessary for disciples of Jesus to walk in Instant Obedience.
Support the showIt can be easy to have a short temper, speak too quickly, and to ignore what God has been speaking into our lives. The book of James says that as believers we are called to live differently. We are challenged to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. The true listening to which James is referring is not just a high volume of information passing in one ear and out the other, but an intentional receiving with practical application through faith-filled action! "What is God saying?" "What has He already said?" God will guide us to live these things out well in the real world while serving others humbly. This is part of our outward expression of our inward relationship with Jesus.

Support the showIn order to have salvation, there must be a need for it. Saved? Saved from what? Why?
Isaiah prophesied to a nation that had turned a deaf ear to the Lord. Instead of serving Him with humility and offering love to their neighbors, the nation of Judah offered meaningless sacrifices in God’s temple at Jerusalem and committed injustices throughout the nation. The people of Judah turned their backs on God and alienated themselves from Him, which created the need for Isaiah’s pronouncements of judgment—declarations made in the hope that God’s chosen people would return to Him.
There is a strong presence of judgment that runs through the first thirty-nine chapters but the overall theme is salvation. How can the two coexist? The presence of judgment indicates its necessity for salvation to occur. Today we read where Isaiah again emphasizes the bad news of the Lord’s wrath, helping us understand why the people were being condemned.

Our words matter to God. Words can lift up or tear down. They can unite or divide. They can make us laugh or make us cry. Words stick with us and cannot be taken back. They leave a lasting imprint. Our tongues reveal our human sinfulness and brokenness. It is like a barometer for our inner world, our character, and our spiritual formation. At the root of any tongue problem is a heart problem. We must pursue a wise lipstyle by training our tongues, being attentive to our words, and being reflective in what we say. Are we using words that are edifying, necessary, and grace-filled? Our words matter and need to be guided by grace in a broken world.

Today we are continuing our journey through the book of James. Today we hit James 1:19-20. We touched on it in the message this Sunday, but I thought we could spend a little bit more time because our listening can actually help us. This is very practical advice for us to follow today. So what is keeping you from obeying?
