    Back from Outer Space

We’ve got the Italian Taco; Imagine Dragon’s Dan Reynold is now available; HBO’s John Oliver needs to get a clue; Netflix’s Tudum preview show returns; Nick Cannon is a shameless baby machine; CNN is shaking up their morning show; Phantom of Opera is closing after 35 years; a teen hacks into Uber just by asking; the Queen’s funeral breaks world-wide television records; Maine lobsters are under attack; the National Toy Hall of Fame announces new nominees; and, lots more pop culture silliness.

MMHP Season 2 Ep: 21 Dr. Don Steele--From '60s Pop to '80s Country, Wagner, Willie & Wynette

Dr. Don Steele made an early career out of touring as a cover band musician, laying vocals and harmonies across the classics from Mt. Pleasant to California and back. When he took note of Dick Wagner recording music and doing radio promotions, he took the leap of getting his act to a higher place. Fast forward to Seattle years later and the impact of his teaching abilities as a teacher and school principal while still performing took him into the country music world pairing him with Tammy Wynette and Willie Nelson at different points. Still performing, the good Dr. rubs elbows with the greats and supports the local mid-Michigan scene to this day. Tune in!

#98 - A California Christmas: City in Lights & 'Tis the Season to be Merry with NJ Rongner

Well, it was bound to happen eventually. Friends don’t have to agree on everything, right? Right. And this week, despite all the things we agree on wholeheartedly, my good friend NJ Rongner and I have very different opinions about a holiday movie. And you know what? It’s okay! Totally okay.

NJ is a woman of many hats. She works full time as a sales and marketing coach at Clickfunnels and is the founder of Working Christian Mom. She loves coffee, Jesus and Gilmore Girls. And for some reason, which she tries to explain to us today, she loves the California Christmas movies on Netflix.

Of course, because this is The Couch, where rabbit trails and side notes are always welcome, we don’t stick to just holiday movies. We also talk about old and new musicals, an upcoming movie, and one of my favorite topics, movie night. It’s a fun episode, and I’m glad you decided to join us. Let’s get started!

#97 - A Holiday in Santa Fe & The Holiday Fix Up with Latasha Ferguson

Welcome to a new episode of The Couch. Today I’m here with my friend and friend of the show, Latasha Ferguson.

Tasha is a speaker, writer, ministry leader, and host of the Overcome to Become podcast. She’s a teacher, a wife, and a mom who loves empowering women and, lucky for us, watching movies. We are talking about a bunch (although not all) of the holiday movies we watched last weekend and whether or not we liked them. Spoiler alert: we did.

Of course, because this is The Couch, where rabbit trails and side notes are always welcome, we also get into craft projects, teacher gifts, foot massages, and hair care. Basically, if you’re looking for two friends having a great time chatting about all the things, holiday movies included, you are in the right place. Get comfy, so we can get started!

#96 - Reba McEntire's Christmas in Tune with Laura Tremaine

#96 - Reba McEntire's Christmas in Tune with Laura Tremaine

Can a beloved country star win over a reluctant holiday movie viewer? Time will tell…

Laura Tremaine joins me this week to share her experience watching her very first Lifetime holiday movie, and it’s both exactly what we expected and a whole lot of fun! Laura is the author of Share Your Stuff, I’ll Go First, the creator of the #onedayHH Instagram campaign, and the host of the 10 Things to Tell You podcast. She’s also a complete newcomer to the world of holiday movies. Though she’s married to an actual movie director, Laura admitted to me last fall (when I was a guest on her podcast) that she’s never watched a made-for-TV holiday movie.

So this year, I asked if she’d be willing to give one a try—and she said yes! In the language of TikTok and good students everywhere, Laura understood this assignment.

Of course, because this is The Couch, where rabbit trails and side notes are always welcome, we also talk for quite a while about the very unofficial difference between thrillers and mysteries, the difference between reading Little Women and watching the movie adaptations, and my possibly offensive take on Amish fiction. This episode really is a blast and I know you’ll love it, so let’s get started!

    Episode 460: Tremors

    Episode 460: Tremors

Hey B-Movie Cast fans in this episode Mary, Nic and special guest Brian Cunningham take a trip to Perfection, Nevada to see what’s shaking with the 1990 monster flick “Tremors”. It’s a personal favorite of Brian and Nic’s which we discovered Mary hadn’t seen before! “Tremors” is an ode to classic sci-fi/horror movies with just the right blend of humor and horror. The film features snappy dialogue and loveable characters including Val and Earl (Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward). So grab a beer, but watch out for Graboids, as we check out “Tremors”.
