    Terra-Therma: An ethereal icy Holocene

What does a glacier sound like?

Internationally acclaimed visual artist Benjamin Knock went to Iceland with a sound recordist and captured recordings of the glaciers and the surrounding volcanically active areas with bizarre things called hydrophones, Seizmaphones and Geophones for his exhibition Terra-Therma.

He's compiled a multi-disciplinary exhibition to bring the sights and sounds of Iceland to Melbourne.

    Cleaning Audio & Staying Hydrated

    Cleaning Audio & Staying Hydrated
Today on the show, Steven and Shaun delve into the mailbag once more to hear your comments on the various topics we've been discussing over the past week. Plus, we hear from a listener who Steven was getting concerned about after not hearing from her for a while. There's also a fascinating demo of the new Adobe Podcast cleanup tool online from listener Jenine Stanley, who shows us around the website and how to clean up audio recorded in noisy environments. And we hear from regular contributor Michael Babcock, about the way he chooses to measure his water intake on a daily basis. But has Steven got a better idea? When you make music, first do it for your own satisfaction: Avedis Kouyoumdjian

When you make music, first do it for your own satisfaction: Avedis Kouyoumdjian

Avo Kouyoumdjian is currently my piano professor at the MDW - University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna where I study Chamber music masters. Born in Beirut, Lebanon to a family of Armenian descent Avo began his studies when he was 12 years old at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Since then he founded International Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition and in 2002 he became the cofounder/ director of the Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Institute. If I know a musician/teacher whose eyes light up as he hears Beethoven, Ravel or any other composer - Avo is one of them. There is no way you can leave his teaching room without being inspired. Gladly, you can also hear this fire in his voice, almost like experiencing his piano lesson. So grab your headphones for this conversation and undiscovered music by A. Babadjanian performed by Avo and his friends.

WORSHIP: Hebrews 10:25. Good hymn lyrics. Worship recordings. Teotihuacan.

WORSHIP: Hebrews 10:25. Good hymn lyrics. Worship recordings. Teotihuacan.

Worship is the greatest privilege afforded any of God’s creatures. In a sense, we do it simply by existing, like the rocks and flowers. But we have the ability to consciously, deliberately give praise and honor to our Creator.

Today we will discuss Hebrews 10:25 and what it does and does not mean regarding our obligation to assemble; how good hymn lyrics draw us closer to God, His people and His plan for us; why singing always sounds better in person; and how just going through the motions may be fine for board games but not for actual worship.

Nate Sloan and Charlie Harding on the Nat King Cole Trio's "Complete Capitol Recordings of the Nat King Cole Trio" (1991)

It's easy to think of Nat King Cole as "that Christmas song guy" but his musical output is truly astounding, recording hundreds of songs with over a hundred of them becoming hits on the pop charts. The Complete Capitol Recordings of the Nat King Cole Trio is by far the largest album we've ever discussed on Heat Rocks and we couldn't have asked for better guests to come break it down with us.

Nate Sloan and Charlie Harding of the Switched on Pop podcast sit down with us to talk about this enormous anthology, the timbre of Cole's voice, and the ubiquity of the AABA song structure. Stay tuned to the very end for a special Heat Rocks theme song workshop.
