37 - How To Apologize Authentically

Do you sometimes find your attempts to apologize don't always land you the way intended? Or even worse, they sometimes make the matter worse? In this week's episode, Del and Barry discuss how to apologize authentically. Begin by acknowledging your mistake and taking full responsibility for your actions. Express genuine remorse, showing empathy for the hurt you may have caused. Avoid excuses or defensiveness; instead, listen to the other person's feelings and perspective. Commit to making amends and changing your behavior. Lastly, give them time and space to process, and remember that actions speak louder than words in rebuilding trust.

6-14-22 Loosh Factories And Living Hells

Amidst the back drop of the latest school shooting in the USA, a community steeped in religious reverence becomes ground zero in the politicized cage match against the second amendment. With such events, there's always questions such as the strange displays of emotions or the lack thereof and rapidly unwrapped calls for the end of access to guns.

Loosh is a term coined by Robert Monroe as the energetic substance emitted by humans that non-corporeal entities feed off of. It's also the energy that generates programs and agendas.

Robb Elementary has become transformed into a memorial that borders on the religious.

One of the emerging religions in Mexico is Santa Muerte and I explore the backdrop of this religion as it relates to Uvalde.

Also in the show, I track a disturbing Twitter feed by a man who's transition from M to F has gone horribly wrong, pointing to the lack of oversight and clear guidance when people are confused and going through gender re-assignment,

    A Failing and a Faltering Faith | Luke 22: 47-62

    A Failing and a Faltering Faith | Luke 22: 47-62

In this week's sermon, Austin preaches on Luke 22: 47:62. In the passage, Judas has led a crowd of people to the Garden of Gethsemane, where he betrays Jesus. Peter immediately jumps to Jesus' defense and attacks the guards. But after stopping Peter and rebuking him, Jesus is arrested and brought before multiple officials in Jerusalem. To make matters worse for Peter, he then denies Jesus three times, just as was promised by Jesus. Austin contrasts the faith of Judas and Peter as well as their responses. When we look at these two men, we see what true biblical repentance looks like when our faith is weak and what regret looks like when it fails.

    ----------------

In this episode, we talk about GUILT.

“Guilt is anger directed at ourselves — at what we did or did not do.” — Peter McWilliams

"Guilt is something abusers use to control you." — a True North Tribe member

    Defining our terms:

    • Regret: "I dislike that the past is what it is."
    • Remorse: "I dislike that I contributed to someone else's suffering."
    • Guilt: "Someone else dislikes what I did/am doing/want to do."

Guilt = a "should" + not being here (someone else's business) AND/OR not being now (past actions or future plans)

Antidote to guilt: mindfulness, presence, staying in your business.

Your brain is always working to figure out how to systematize life so that it can run on autopilot as often as possible. You can shift your autopilot into a habit of asking yourself if you're being your best in this moment.

Need a nervous system reset? Leave the environment, move your body, wash your hands.

Visiting the Past & Future, Single-Tasking, and Why Moving Backwards Isn't a Thing

Visiting the Past & Future, Single-Tasking, and Why Moving Backwards Isn't a Thing

Visiting the past and future in healthy ways:

    • Visit, but don't live there
    • Be mindful of what you bring back to the present

What to bring back from the Past: Gratitude.
What NOT to bring back from the Past: Remorse, Regret, Self-Judgment, Rumination.

What to bring back from the Future: Open-Minded Anticipation.
What NOT to bring back from the Future: Fear, Controlling Motivations, Baseless Projection.

Regret: "I'm suffering the consequences of what I did."
Remorse: "You're suffering the consequences of what I did."

    If you're habitually in the past/future and being present takes effort, it's probably best for you to stay out of the past/future;
If you're habitually in the present and visiting the past/future takes effort, it's probably safe for you to visit the past/future.

MINDFULNESS IS A GREAT WAY TO CULTIVATE PRESENCE
Single-tasking is a great way to be mindful.

There are not backward steps. Not in relationships, not in your own growth journey, not in potty training. Every step is a forward step: The thing you think you might be moving back to weren't built upon the foundation of everything that's happened in your life since then.

Your mental/emotional/spiritual growth is not a straight line.

    • You don't acquire tools - you just sequentially realize you've always had access to them (like owning DVD's vs. subscribing to a streaming service).
    • Not using your tools doesn't mean you haven't learned how to use them.

    GRATITUDES:

    • Abby is grateful for her neighborhood community.
    • Ryan is grateful that he's been recording his dreams.

    TIME CODES:
    1:30 - Healthy Past/Future

    Judas | The Twelve

    Judas | The Twelve
Pastor Matt show us through Judas’s story that there is a big difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus. We learn that Satan actively pursues those who show interest in Jesus, and if we are not in relationship with Christ, we are vulnerable, even before those closest to us notice. Jesus wants a relationship with us so that we might be saved. Do you have questions, or would like to talk to someone about what being in relationship with Jesus means? Then great! Take the next step and visit burnthickory.com/next or text “next” to 678-506-2462 to get answers. Luke 6:12-16: 12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: 14 Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
