Brock Bennett shares his story of escaping the prison of the version of fundamentalist Christianity that he grew up with, and is now undoing that damage and living his best creative life as a gay man.
Brock Bennett shares his story of growing up in a fundamentalist family with a preacher as his father.
In this "no holds barred" interview, Brock discusses the damage done by a parent who was unable to face the true realities of life and how each person is created and who they are.
He was told, and believed, that his "same sex attraction" was his thorn in the flesh- something that he had to live with, but not succumb to- so that he could spend eternity in heaven.
It wasn't until he reached his thirties that he was able to escape the prison of religion.
He set out on a quest to find out for himself what it meant to be gay, and allowed himself to feel what was obvious to him when he was only five years old.

S2E53 Andy Wells - Tried to be Straight PART II
In Part II of Ken's interview with Andy Wells, the two talk about the impact of the Nashville Statement and Andy's apologetics professor at Biola University, J.P. Moreland. Andy tells about his experience in leadership at a large evangelical church which led to "conversion" or "reparative therapy," and then his "coming out." The Exodus Movement is shut down. He talks about liberal Christianity, but theologically, he remains a conservative. Andy's new church, St. Gregory's of Nyssa in San Francisco brought renewal, hope and a supportive community. S2E51 Andy Wells - Tried to be Straight PART I
With difficulty, at age 36, Andy Wells came out as gay. He's about to release a book entitled - Tried to be Straight, Biblical Options for Gay Christians. In Part I, Ken follows Andy's journey that took him from Episcopalian to Congregational all in historic Pasadena. He had a profound conversion experience that changed everything. As a new evangelical Christian, Andy shares his faith with Heidi Fleiss, the Hollywood Madam. He encountered questions he could not answer so he enrolled at Simon Greenleaf, then Biola University and completed a M.A. in Apologetics. He talks openly about his growing awareness of his own sexuality but his need to keep the gnawing conflict to himself. In Part II, Andy talks about his experience with reparative therapy, the Exodus Movement, and finally his coming out, and his continued, robust faith - his love for Jesus, the Bible and his new-found community.
