    Understanding Retinoblastoma

    Understanding Retinoblastoma

Retinoblastoma is a rare form of eye cancer that affects infants and young children. In recent years, significant advances have been made in retinoblastoma diagnosis and treatment, helping not only save children's lives but in many cases preserving vision in the eye affected by cancer. On this episode of ASRS’s Retina Health for Life, Dr. Carol Shields of the Wills Eye Hospital  joins Dr. Timothy Murray to discuss the causes of the condition, symptoms parents should be aware of and the importance of early, personalized treatment to ensure the best outcomes for children and their families.

Intra-Arterial Chemotherapy for Retinoblastoma - Risk and Reward: Interview with Patricia Chevez-Barrios, MD, and Mathew Wilson, MD, FACS
A conversation between Patricia Chevez-Barrios, MD, and Mathew Wilson, MD, FACS. Since intra-arterial chemotherapy for retinoblastoma reemerged five years ago, the procedure has been performed successfully in more than 25 countries, with high rates of globe salvage. But as the procedure has gained traction, significant complications and unanswered questions have also surfaced. Drs. Matt Wilson and Patricia Chevez-Barrios discuss those questions and the potential risks of treating the eye first rather than the patient. (June 2011)
