PPR 266 ECONOMICS OF RETIREMENT INCOME

Maximum Retirement income does not happen with a product. Investments, annuities, real estate, life insurance, or crypto by themselves will not get you to your maximum retirement income number. It requires a thorough understanding of the economics related to retirement income vs accumulation.

Optimizing retirement income doesn't happen with a product like investments, life insurance, 401k, real estate or annuities. None of these things by themselves will help you maximize retirement income. You must have an integrated approach that balances the economics of retirement accumulation and retirement income. I am pulling back the kimono on old outdated Wall Street advice without losing site of critical planning decisions related to estate and asset protection planning.

Scot Hunsaker Returns to the Show with a Message: Don't wait too long...

Scot Hunsaker was on the show last year talking about how to prepare employees to take over once the CEO decided to leave. He has a recipe for the process which we discussed in a very engaging conversation. Scot and his wife then boarded his boat and began a slow ride up the east coast, around Nova Scotia, and down the St Lawrence river. His boat is now in storage near Chicago. He and his wife then flew to New Zealand and then Australia for a six week trip. From Australia, Scott called. "Cam," he said, "there's something I need to tell your listeners that I'm learning from this trip. They need to not wait too long before starting their retirement. I'm seeing too many people who are too old and frail to enjoy it the way they dreamed." Well worth a listen.

GPO and WEP: The other pandemics!

GPO and WEP: The other pandemics!
Proposals to eliminate WEP and GPO have been around almost since enactment in the 1980s. But repeal has always been the legislative equivalent of mission impossible — probably still is. But what about “reform” rather than repeal? Has the turmoil created by the COVID-19 pandemic changed the political outlook? In the House, 245 members have signed onto a bill that would repeal the Evil Twins. Not likely to happen, but under House rules if that repeal proposal gets 290 cosponsors — 45 more — it has to come up for a vote. And that opens up the possibility of a modification, though not repeal of the two. Long shot, yes, but possible. In the meantime, back to retirement plans for — someday. My guests today on our Your Turn radio show includes benefits expert Tammy Flanagan. She talked about what you should be thinking regardless of your age or time in government so that when you want to/have to leave, you will have enough money to live on. Lots of boxes to check. She’ll explain what they are and why you should have a backup plan. Later during the show we’re joined by Jessica Klement of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees association. NARFE has been one of the leading advocates of repeal/reform of GPO and WEP. She’ll explain what they do and give an update on what Congress might do.
