Reunited Top 40: 80's songs from movies 20-1

This is it! On the back of our Karate Kid episode, and influenced by the majestic "You're the best" song by Joe Esposito that featured in the tournament montage, we reached out to the beautiful Reunited listenership, asking for their Top 10 songs from the 80's.

We then gathered all the lists, put them on a point system, and collated a top 40 chart. With over 105 individual songs, there are surprises, a few misses, but mostly all killer. Listen back, as we count it down!

Huge thanks goes to our contributors to the charts: Saliah Williams, Keith Berry, Stuart Houston, JapanArab, Daisy McGarry, Mark McKay, Rob Williams, Paul MacFarlane, Shamim Ahmed, Rob Harvela, Sofia McGarry, Scott McEwan, Ronny Costello, David from Jaws the Revenge appreciation page, Carrie Ross, Steve McDonald, Thomas Stewart, Leana Thorpe, Sean Read, Carlos Jones and Gwen Mauny.

    Hiya my lovely souls,

Have you ever had in your life one friend with whom you've lost contact, but despite the years, you cannot seem to forget about them? Well, this is what happened to our Rizzy.
    Giono, Giono, Giono, ooouh, Giono!!
A thousand questions, yet nil of answers. Usually these abrupt friendship interruptions
remain a souvenir, but not in Rizzy's book!
Giono's back! How? What?! What's happening? Who has he become?

    Shall we?

    One love,

More Than A Man's Best Friend

More Than A Man's Best Friend
    A man and his dog.

When Bubba Nulisch was hospitalized with a bacterial infection, doctors had to put him in a coma to save his life. While he was in the hospital, Bubba learned that his dog, 4-year-old Bullet, had run away from his home in Grand Prairie. “I knew he was out there, and I couldn’t see him or touch him or find him,” he said. “It was heartbreaking...I didn’t want to be woke up if he wasn’t there."

In a desperate plea, Bubba posted on Facebook. After many prayers and an angel in the form of Kim Joppie, Bubba and Bullet were reunited!

Episode 104: Tony on the Mic Narcippa Teague - Daddy I'm Scared

Episode 104: Tony on the Mic Narcippa Teague - Daddy I'm Scared

Today on Tony on the mic, my guest is Narcippa Teague, author of “Daddy I’m Scared.” A children’s book about how to confront the monsters and fear, in a flashback, super hero type tale. That is pretty complex for a kids’ book, but I have read it and he pulls it off in an engaging tale. The book was just released this September. We talk about his inspiration for the book, and the process. We also talk about his second marriage, which was to his high school sweetheart whose heart he broke back in the day. They met shortly after his divorce and sparks ignited and romance was rekindled! We talk about a game-winning half-court shot he hit in fifth grade and still brags about it, and how his dad takes credit for drawing up the play.

180: Jack and Jerry Going Viral at 96! on Change It Up Radio with Paula Shaw

In this episode of Change It Up Radio, my Dad, Jack Gutman, and his best friend from World War II, Jerry Ackerman, join me to talk about their first in-person reunion after being separated for over 75 years, each not knowing if their beloved friend had survived the war… a touching story that has since gone viral, now reaching over 2 million views!

My dad, Jack Gutman, and his best friend, Jerry Ackerman, met at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California, during World War II and were instant buddies who were both from New York and had many things in common. Unfortunately, they were separated when they were assigned different battleships that were en route to the invasion of Okinawa – one of the biggest naval battles of World War II that left thousands dead.

Fast forward to 2022, Jack and Jerry, who are now both 96 years old, have been reunited after a long 75 years of not even knowing if the other was still alive, all thanks to Jerry’s son, Peter, and some searching on Google! Many of you met both of these men when we shared their story on Memorial Day of this year. But, a lot has happened since then… a month after our last interview, Jack and Jerry finally got to see each other again in person!

In this episode, they reminisce about fond old memories and their fast-growing friendship during World War II and share their experience of being reunited for the first time in over 7 decades at Camp Pendleton, where it all began for them. This beautiful love story about two best friends reuniting after thinking that they’d never see each other again has since gone viral online, warming many people’s hearts, helping them during hard times, and reminding us all that nothing in this world is more important or more powerful than love.

171: A Reunion... 75 Years in the Making! with Jack Gutman and Jerry Ackerman on Change It Up Radio with Paula Shaw

In this episode of Change It Up Radio, we're talking about the reunion of two Navy Veterans who were best friends in World War II and had lost connection with one another for 75 years.

Today, we live in a world with social media, cell phones, and the internet, where it's very easy to reconnect with an old friend or check in with someone we may have lost contact with over the years. But, it wasn't always so easy, especially 75 years ago, for two Navy buddies that got separated and were left wondering what happened to their dear friend over the years.

My dad, Jack Gutman, and his best friend, Jerry Ackerman, met at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California during World War II, and were instant buddies who were both from New York and had a lot of things in common. They formed a club called "the 3 jays" with another friend, Joe Gagliardi, who had also become a part of their group. Unfortunately, they were all eventually reassigned. Jack and Jerry were assigned to the USS Cullman, a troop transport, and they lost contact with Joe. Jack ended up being transferred to another ship, and that was the end of a very beautiful friendship.

For 75 years, they wondered where the other was, how the other was, and if the other was even still alive. They both went about life, going to school, falling in love, and raising their families. Fast forward to 2022, Jack and Jerry, who are now both 96 years old, have finally been reunited, all thanks to Jerry's son, Peter, and a search on Google!

In this episode, they reminisce about fond old memories and their fast-growing friendship during World War II, share their individual stories about meeting their wives and building their families, and talk about their plans to meet again in person for the first time in over 7 decades!

Jack also shares how his friends Jerry and Joe were both incredibly helpful in his healing journey, even though he never said this to them back then, and he shares that being reunited with Jerry again has served as a form of closure to his post-traumatic stress that he had gone through for 66 years. This is a truly beautiful conversation that you do not want to miss!

The Reunited States, part 2: Q&A

The Reunited States, part 2: Q&A

We’re back for Q&A with the filmmaker of The Reunited States, the author of the book that inspired the film, and three other heroes featured in the film.  Watch the film here.

At a time when America is ripping apart at the seams, The Reunited States is a powerful and urgent documentary that follows the unsung heroes on the difficult journey of bridging our political and racial divides. Susan Bro, who lost her daughter when a car drove through a group of counter-protestors in Charlottesville, and David and Erin Leaverton, a Republican couple who travel to all fifty states in an RV to find out what divides us, are just a few of the characters profiled in the film. Each of these bridge-builders have realized that while our divides run deeper than they ever could have imagined, so does the love and hope to bring our country back together. Based on the book of the same name (which features The Village Square) the film urges us to consider that everyone has a role to play in reuniting the country.
