    Revelation chapter 7

    Revelation chapter 7

You may not have noticed, but something is missing

The action that began prior to this chapter involved a magic scroll secured with seven seals
    - six of those seals have been opened (chapter 6)
    • but now in chapter 7, there’s no mention of the seventh seal
    • instead, we have come to an interlude before returning to the seventh seal
    - this will happen again (after six trumpets sound, then there's a delay before the seventh)
    • while I’m at it, “After this” is not chronological
    ◦ it does not refer to the next thing that happened as in a sequence, but the next thing John saw
    • he’s not marking days on calendar, he’s "changing channels"
    ◦ John says, “Let’s see what’s happening over here”
    - then he takes us two places:
    • in verses 1-8 we see what is happening on the earth
    • in verses 9-17 we see what is happening in heaven

Revelation Lesson 16: Washed in the Blood of the Lamb

Revelation Lesson 16: Washed in the Blood of the Lamb

Revelation chapter 7 is the text for this sermon entitled, "Washed in the Blood of the Lamb."

This chapter is the immediate answer to the question at the end of chapter 6: “For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” The answer is that the blood of the Lamb seals two groups:
    (1) the faithful Jews, who followed God throughout their lives under the Old Testament law, and
    (2) the world-wide multitude of believers who know and follow God under the new and final testament.

The chapter also refers to great tribulation that will come to believers, pressures to renounce the faith or suffer consequences. These times of spiritual warfare will come and go, and the faithful can take comfort that a crown and white robe await those faithful.

    Day 360: Heavenly Worship (2023)

    Day 360: Heavenly Worship (2023)
Fr. Mike discusses the heavenly throne room seen in our reading from Revelation and our opportunity to be brought into this throne room during every Mass. He also focuses on our ability to glorify God and exalt him into eternity through the righteous deeds we perform on earth. Today’s readings are Revelation 4-7, Titus 1-3, and Proverbs 31:10-15. Revelation 7 - Be patient when God's involved because we may miss the good stuff in our haste

Revelation 7 - Be patient when God's involved because we may miss the good stuff in our haste

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,  who sits on the throne,  and to the Lamb.” Revelation 7:9-10

As Charles Spurgeon shared with his congregation, "Ah, Brothers and Sisters! In order to understand the deep things of God, we need to be patient in our contemplation. Had John turned away his eyes, relaxed his study, or withdrawn his gaze from the marvelous panorama, he would not have seen the better part of his vision!"

One of my greatest challenges is patience. I want something and I want it now, regardless if it's knowledge, a toy or some other "need". However, God doesn't work according to my desires and immaturity, but knows when the time for Him to act is perfect. Thankfully, John was patient when looking at the vision he was being shown and we get to see all of God's plan!

Join me in reading Revelation 7 and be encouraged!

    Gospel: Race Reimagined

    Gospel: Race Reimagined
The gospel reimagines race. God desires every tribe, tongue and nation to worship him and Jesus' death and resurrection breaks down the wall of hostility between all people, making possible a worship that maintains distinction while abolishing disparity. The Church must be the reflection of God's kingdom in which the convergence of cultures puts on display the manifold/multi-colored wisdom of God.
