013 Nancy Ancowitz - Self Promotion for Introverts

013 Nancy Ancowitz - Self Promotion for Introverts
My uncle Skip taught me how to fold a simple origami bird when I was in about the 3rd grade. If you pull the tail on the bird, the wings flap. It’s really pretty cool. I think one of the reasons I was able to learn it at such an early age was because I’m an introvert and I like to know how things work. Being an introvert isn’t inherently good or bad… it just IS. Learning to use our natural gifts and talents so that we can work WITH them instead of AGAINST them is a good thing. My next guest is Nancy Ancowitz. She is a business communication coach specializing in career advancement and presentation skills and author of Self-Promotion for Introverts®: The Quiet Guide to Getting Ahead . She is also an adjunct instructor at New York University, where she teaches Presentation Skills for Introverts®. She is accomplished in many other areas too, from jewelry design and blogger to playwright! Here’s Nancy Ancowitz

    011 Paid to be You

    011 Paid to be You
You just have to keep pushing when things don’t start off the way you want them to. It was obvious with my car, but sometimes the same thing holds true in life. You just have to get outside of the comfort zone and push. My next guest, Adam Rico went through his struggles finding a career that he enjoyed. He tried many things and had several careers before finding what he enjoyed. Along the way he learned how to position and market himself for a new job. Sometimes it gets messy but he kept pushing. Now he works in Human Resources and coaches people on the side to shortcut their journeys to finding meaningful work. He’s also the author of “Paid to be You”.

009 Jonathan Milligan - Know Yourself
Jonathan Milligan might be able to help you find it and what to avoid. Jonathan was a teacher, headhunter and now a blogger and writer. Listen to his green/yellow/red light system to help put more of the things you enjoy doing into every day and less of the things that drain you. 008 Gary Bolles - Competence and Compassion

008 Gary Bolles - Competence and Compassion
Have you ever made a career change and found out immediately that you made a mistake? That’s why I was in Texas for four months… I was with Texas Instruments sitting in a room with nothing to do for four months waiting for a security clearance. I was hired to work on the Harm Missile guidance systems… but as I sat in that room, I learned how much I didn’t want to work for that company. I would have been gone faster but I had to wait on my security check to clear before I packed up and left… which is exactly what I did the very same day my clearance came through… The only thing worse that being in a job you don’t want is being in that job a day longer than necessary… That’s why I’m so excited about my next guest… Gary Bolles has made much of his career about helping other people with their careers… and he came about it because it’s somewhat of a family business. His Dad is Richard Bolles, author of “What Color is Your Parachute” which has sold more than 10 million copies over more than 4 decades. Gary’s latest project is called eParachute to help you discover your strengths, explore your career options, and chart a path through the world of work… here’s Gary Bolles
