Self-belief and the unorthodox path: Forging your own way

Self-belief and the unorthodox path: Forging your own way

Kerry Ryan’s board career may have been unplanned, but her unorthodox legal career and the time she spent working offshore groomed her for the gig.

Today she is an experienced Non-Executive Director for Richmond Football Club, Aligned Leisure, Retail Food Group (ASX listed), Mental Health First Aid International and Kids First Australia. Her comprehensive legal career has seen her as commercial partner at the international law firm, Norton Rose Fulbright, and in-house counsel with the Packer Group in India. Her appetite for international business dealings has translated to her passion for diversity in her board roles from professional services (law and accounting), to retail and franchising, to sport, education, fitness, health and wellbeing.

At the time of the pandemic, Kerry fondly speaks of the Richmond Football Club’s stellar championship and the key characteristics that make the Club a formidable force in the Premiership. Most noteworthy is the Club’s commitment to inclusion and diversity, their relationship to community and their responsibility to make a difference.

At the same time, the retail industry hit near collapse in many parts of the world and to support both employees and customers alike, Kerry and the boards of Retail Food Group and Aligned Leisure were instrumental in advising fee relief, opening up negotiations with landlords, strategising COVID safe plans and endorsing health and safety measures.

Listen to Claire Braund and Kerry discuss the compulsion for boards to get too involved in times of crisis, why pigeonholing is detrimental to a board career and how to forge your own pathway.

    Kerry Ryan

    • Non Executive Director at Richmond Football Club, Aligned Leisure, Retail Food Group (ASX listed), Mental Health First Aid International, Kids First Australia
    • Previous board and advisory board roles include CPA Australia, Lexvoco and International Legal Services Advisory Council (ILSAC).

Ep23 - Jackson Wray - Saracens Stalwart and Eighty20 Coffee connoisseur

Interesting catching up with Jackson in such strange times, especially after the season Saracens have had, but he's in good spirits, and lifts the lid on Sarries, England, and life outside of Rugby! Cup and league highs, this seasons lows, and everything in between!

The Celtic Underground - Brilliant Brendan & Warbs Bulls**t Bingo

The Celtic Underground - Brilliant Brendan & Warbs Bulls**t Bingo

This week sees the return of a man of culture…oh sorry a man from the City of Culture, Hullbhoy. Hullbhoy joins Harry to discuss the marvellous football under Brendan and specifically to review the Hearts and Aberdeen games along with the sales that we didn’t make in the transfer window.

In the process of the meandering chat Harry & Hullbhoy also touch on the runners and riders for 2nd spot. How the Dons would be a better team with a better manager, has Cathro started getting the Jambos playing his way and do Rangers fans sit listening to their manager playing Football Bullshit Bingo?

    Enjoy…

Celtic Underground - Dead Clubs, Winning Formations and Omnishambles

Celtic Underground - Dead Clubs, Winning Formations and Omnishambles

This week Harry is joined by Hullbhoy to discuss the first New Glasgow Derby in the league. The bhoys discuss what we all know - it's the same fans, supporting a team wearing the same colours in the same stadium but that it's NOT the same club...it can't be because THE OLD ONE WENT BUST! Harry regails a tale from his starring role on Sportsound but is then taken down a peg or two by being reminded that St ANthony was in the New York Times.

After this bit of banter the bhoys get get down to brass tacks and review what the team for the New Derby will be before Harry grans a bit of audio from the archives and plays and Omnishables Special

There is new music as usual (links on the site) no new podcast recommendations (as Harry needs to get himself organised) and of course the Foundation.

    Enjoy.

    2016-010-DNS_Reconnaissance

DNS... we take it for granted... it's just there. And we only know it's broken when your boss can't get to Facebook.

This week, we discuss the Domain Naming System (DNS). We start with a bit of history, talking about the origins of DNS, some of the RFCs involved in it's creation, how it's hierarchical structure functions to allow resolution to occur, and even why your /etc/hosts is important.

We discuss some of the necessary fields in your DNS records. MX, ALIAS, CNAME, SOA, TXT, and how DNS is used for non-repudiation in email.

We also touch on how you can use DNS to enumerate an external network presence when you are the red team, and what you should know about to make it harder for bad actors to not use your external DNS in amplification attacks.

Finally, you can't have a discussion about DNS without talking about how to secure your DNS implementation. So we supply you with a few tips and best practices.

Plenty of informational links down below, including links to the actual RFCs (Request for Comment) which detail how DNS is supposed to function. Think of them as the owner's manual for your car.
