A 99 Year Old Prisoner of War - Herb Sheaner

A 99 Year Old Prisoner of War - Herb Sheaner

Mr. Sheaner is one of the last Americans who was a veteran of WW2 and his story, like the story of countless others, will continue to remain a significant piece in US history.

His story of survival, hunger and reflection from a teenaged prisoner of war inside Germany near the end of WWII is truly remarkable. From capture at the Battle of The Bulge to the final escape from his German guards, Mr. Sheaner gives us a glimpse into the despair and agony of being a prisoner in a foreign land.

At 99 Years Old he is easily the oldest guest on the podcast. A special thank you to everyone at the offices of  Sheaner Insurance, LLP

All About the White Rock Lake Foundation

All About the White Rock Lake Foundation

The White Rock Lake Foundation is instrumental in presenting the case for the maintenance and improvement of White Rock Lake. It coordinates public relations efforts, serves as a unified advocacy group before the Dallas City Council, acts in close and effective cooperation with the Dallas Park and Recreation Board to assist in long-term planning and design, and spearheads private fundraising efforts.

The White Rock Lake Foundation got its start in 1989, when a concerned group of citizens formed the foundation out of concern for the lake. Friends’ first task was to have the dredging project for the lake placed on the upcoming bond election. Friends was among several similarly concerned groups who pleaded the case before the Dallas City Council, with successful results: the issue was placed on the bond referendum and in May 1995, Dallas voters overwhelmingly approved a $18 million dollar bond issue to dredge White Rock Lake and restore it to a healthy, life-sustaining depth by the end of the 20th century.

A Legend in the Restaurant Industry - Mike McRae!

Mike is the creative mind behind the award-winning Table 13, a Sinatra-esque fine dining and entertainment experience in Addison. He also owns the legendary Stan’s Blue Note on Lower Greenville–Dallas’ oldest, continuously operated drinking establishment. And he owns Dodie’s Cajun at The Harbor in Rockwall and at The Village in Allen. He even had a hand in Dick’s Last Resort in the West End until he sold it in 2021.

“McRae’s is the culmination of years of ideas that came together with a lot of teamwork, luck, long days and late nights,” says Mike, who saw an opportunity to manifest his vision in the unfinished lounge space left by a previous tenant. “I took it over because this is my neighborhood; it’s where McRae’s was meant to be. And the best part is having so many guests tell us we’re a great addition to the community.”
