Healing Our Image of God with Rich Villodas

Healing Our Image of God with Rich Villodas
What an honor to talk with pastor, speaker, author and truly such a nice guy, Rich Villodas! This conversation is rich (pun unintended) as we talk about his new book and his own journey into knowing God as good, beautiful and kind.

In Good and Beautiful and Kind: Becoming Whole in a Fractured World, Rich speaks directly to the things that fragment us and our relationships; then leads us wisely through the internal and relational work of healing. We dive into the causes of our fragmentation; then focus in on prayer (what it is and isn't) and the contemplative life. (Spoiler alert, we've both been influenced significantly by the writings of Henri Nouwen and Brennan Manning.) Listen to the end as Rich leads us in a practice in examining our icebergs--all the stuff under the surface. It's so good!

304: Rich Villodas on How to Deconstruct Lies, the Complexities of the Inner Life, and Principles for Effectual Prayer

How's the state of your soul?

This week, we're talking about the complexities of the inner life, the foundation of effectual prayer, and how to deconstruct lies. Joining us today is Rich Villodas, who said, "To talk meaningfully about wholeness and love begins with a reappraisal of our prayer because in so doing, we will be taking stock of what our souls deeply long for." Rich is an author and pastor who lives in Queens, New York, and is passionate about helping people develop a full life of formation, so that's where we're headed today.

How To Live A Deeply Formed Life with Rich Villodas

How To Live A Deeply Formed Life with Rich Villodas

We found Rich Villodas and his church, New Life Fellowship, online the Sunday after the Capitol insurrection.  We were confused and wrestling with the church’s response or lack thereof, to this evil act.  Rich’s sermon that Sunday assured us that there is no way to separate justice and mercy from the gospel, and that becoming a Christian means we have to deal with our stuff, not just pass it off to the Lord and peace out.

Rich’s new book, “The Deeply Formed Life” gives us five transformative values to help us live rooted in these crazy times.  “God is not interested in transforming some parts of us and leaving the rest untouched.  He is not interested in separating our lives into sacred and not sacred categories, or reducing our faith to a personal decision that merely punches a ticket to heaven.”  We’re not sure if we’ve ever read a book that married internal growth and the gospel so well.  If this resonates with you, and you’ve been looking for permission to rethink what living a gospel life actually looks like, this podcast episode will both encourage you and rock your world.
