For a change of pace we've watched the 2002 drama The Laramie Project, which documents the horrifying homophobic murder of 21 year old student Matthew Shepard & the reaction of the small town of Laramie.

The film is based on the play of the same name, and features a host of famous faces as the townspeople and the theatre company conducting the interviews. Join us as we discuss the plot of the film, homophobia & how these events don't feel all that foreign to us in 2022. 

We also discuss The Umbrella Academy, Rick & Morty and Gilmore Girls.

Rick & Morty | AdultSwim | Available on Netflix

It is currently 5 seasons long. It is a brilliantly written series with complex characters whose arcs are uniquely thought out (in my perspective).

Archer | Fox | Available on Netflix

It is currently 12 seasons long. There's a disfunction in the family and team dynamic of the main characters and the comedic timing and writing is brilliant.

Family Guy | Fox | Some Seasons on Netflix     The Simpsons | Fox

Family Guy is currently in its 20th season while The Simpsons is in its 34th. Both are family based and carry the same premise but are from different generations. It is interesting to see the evolution of animation through the different seasons of these shows and the writing dynamics change over the years.

Bojack Horseman | Netflix

This series in particular holds a special place in my heart as it touches on very deep and heavy themes like anxiety, depression, PTSD, generational trauma e.t.c and (in my opinion) tastefully tells the story of how they affect the different characters. Each character feels like an important part of the puzzle that is the story.

Big Mouth | Netflix

Puberty but make it creative and interesting.

Then, the boys watch the trailer for the latest season of Rick & Morty and wonder about the current state of Adult Swim programming. Later, the duo sits down to discuss Amazon's new superhero program, Invincible and all the light-hearted family entertainment that this DEFINITELY provides.

This week, Swanson, Kiorein and Stairmaster discuss Pickle Rick becoming an actual, drinkable, beverage and accusations of racism among the writing staff of The CW's Superman & Lois. Then, the boys play another round of Guess Who's Coming focused on little wars and Greek mythology. Later, the gang watch the latest season of Disney's The Mandalorian and bow before the altar of Baby Yoda.

In this episode of Nick Nack Goes To The Movies, I somehow managed to convince someone else to squad up, saying words and opinions on movies, TV, and pop culture.  Johnny Mosho joins the show to talk about cartoons, but not your average Saturday morning cartoons.  We tackle as many adult animated shows as we can in this extended edition episode ranging from Family Guy and Futurama all the way to Big Mouth, BoJack Horseman, and Rick & Morty.  If the cartoon is crass, dark, depressing, gory, or some combination of the 4 pillars, we are talking about it.  And just in time for the season 11 premiere of Archer!  We also get a bit deeper with things and delve into some topics of inclusion, diversity, and representation in animation and the impact of COVID‑19 on this industry.  With double the speakers, you also get double the top 10 lists, and believe me, there are some wild rankings, inclusions, and omissions.  So time to heat up some Amy's Organic Lentil Soup and awa-a-a-ay we go!!!
