Bonjour à tous et bienvenue dans JK Shift. Je suis Olivier Morin, CEO d'une agence créative digitale qui s'appelle JK.

Je suis un passionné de communication depuis toujours et j'ai été animateur, vulgarisateur durant plus de 15 ans.

Mon objectif ici va être de vous transmettre quelques clés d'un monde qui change très vite, vous partager chaque semaine mon analyse des tendances digitales. On va parler d'évolution des plateformes, du développement du gaming, du Web3, de l'IA, de l'écologie et surtout des enjeux de société pour donner un petit peu de perspective sur un monde qui est en plein bouleversement.

Animation has the power to transport us to new dimensions, ignite our emotions, and bring fantastical worlds to life. One series, in particular, has been capturing the hearts and minds of viewers worldwide…myself included.

Arcane is a visionary show born from the collaboration between Riot Games, Fortiche and Netflix. Set in the universe of the wildly popular game "League of Legends," Arcane follows the tragic story of two iconic champions, sisters Vi and Jinx and the power that will tear them apart. 

It has managed to break through the boundaries of what we thought animation could achieve, captivating audiences of all ages. So, naturally, the show earned multiple Emmys, Annie Awards, and a Lumiere Award to name a few.

I rarely gravitate towards animation so I was shook when I realized I had binged the entire first season. It compelled me to find out who was behind it. So, I was thrilled when Melinda accepted my invite to come on the show.

An experienced leader in her field, she’s worked with top players in town, including Walt Disney Studios, Nickelodeon, Universal and others. She produced over 200 episodic titles and features and is now overseeing animation production for Riot Games’ television and film properties.

Back in 2018, former Riot Games employees Melanie McCracken and Jes Negrón filed a class action suit against the League of Legends publisher over endemic gender-based discrimination and fostering a “men-first” environment. A settlement has now been reached.

The lawsuit was originally filed three months after a Kotaku investigation into the company’s sexist culture.

Riot has agreed to pay $80 million to members of the class action suit and another $20 million in attorney’s fees and miscellaneous expenses, for a total of $100 million. This global settlement spans from 2014 to present and includes all current and former full-time employees as well as temporary contracts in California who identify as women. The settlement is currently awaiting court approval.

Moreover, Riot has also agreed to having a third party approved by both the company and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) monitor pay equity and internal reporting for three years.

Arcane è una serie Netflix del 2021, creata da Christian Linke e Alex Yee, e prodotta dallo Studio Fortiche sotto la supervisione di Riot Games.

Nella divisa e turbolenta città di Piltover, è in corso una lotta interna di politica e potere, che vede i piani alti e benestanti della città scontrarsi contro i bassifondi squallidi di Zaun. La situazione è stagnante finché le due sorelle Powder e Vi, con i loro amici, decidono di mettere a segno un furto nei lussuosi appartamenti di Piltover, senza avere idee delle conseguenze che si scateneranno.

Basata sul videogioco League of Legends, questa serie unisce il mondo videoludico a quello cinematografico come mai è stato fatto finora. Innumerevoli personaggi si mischiano in un turbinio di azione, relazioni e scoperta, in una scrittura perfetta alla virgola. Un comparto visivo impeccabile e delle animazioni splendidamente realizzate chiudono il perfetto cerchio di Arcane, rendendola una delle serie migliori che abbiamo mai visto.

A nasty scam has become more popular over the last few months. People desperate for work at popular game studios like Riot and Rockstar Games get an email from a recruiter asking them to apply. They do and eventually get the job only to realize it’s all fake, usually after losing money to the scammers. Now, Riot Games is taking legal action and filing a lawsuit against the people behind this con.

As reported by Polygon, numerous game studios have received emails and messages over the last few months from people who were scammed after applying for a job. The methods vary somewhat, but it usually begins with that email from a fake recruiter asking them to apply.

Of course, the hopeful applicants get the job, complete with paperwork and emails that all look official. Some victims even have to go through fake interviews with the scammers pretending to be actual employees, asking questions about the victims’ past work history and experience. Then, a fake human resources employee asks the victim for their banking information to set up direct deposits as well as a few hundred dollars in advance for fees they say go towards equipment like iPads, often with the promise that it can be expensed at a later date.

We're back, work was a little crazy for Cory last week so we took a week off in preparation to talk about something big. Or two something bigs really because we of course have the launch of the live action Cowboy Bebop from Netflix, but they also gave us the surprise gift that is Arcane which we felt we needed to cover as well. Despite neither of us being big fans of League of Legends, we both found ourselves really enjoying Arcane so we try to pinpoint what makes it successful. For Bebop on the other hand, we'll go over what worked and what didn't land for us and how we feel about the adaptation overall, we could spend literally hours covering it, but this is a condensed version of our thoughts, and yes we do stray into spoiler territory. And to round out the episode we have a couple of "facts" Nick found online to remind us all how anime works I guess. It's a big week so we hope you enjoy.
