Matilda is a 1996 American family comedy fantasy film co-produced and directed by Danny DeVito from a screenplay written by Nicholas Kazan and Robin Swicord. Based on Roald Dahl's 1988 novel of the same name, the film stars Mara Wilson as the title character with DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Embeth Davidtz, and Pam Ferris in supporting roles. The film centers on a young genius girl named Matilda Wormwood, who develops psychokinetic abilities and uses them to deal with her disreputable family and Agatha Trunchbull, the ruthless, oppressive and tyrannical Principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School - Wiki.
In this episode of Chapter One: Take Two Briana and Maddy discuss how meaningful books like Matilda are. It is so important that children are talked to about, what can be seen as, 'adult' issues because without this education children are unable to express themselves and what they may be experiencing. As many of you will know, both the book and film are also very fun and entertaining. Check out this week's episode to hear more about our thoughts.
This week, we visit a film the dark and disturbing childhood of Nick by exploring a Disney film based on abook by Roald Dahl: James…

Connor and Riley are joined by their first ever guest and long time friend Stephen LaGue to discuss Wes Anderson's first animated feature: Fantastic Mr. Fox. As this is the start of their new series on animation, they'll discuss its diversity, impact, and why it does not get the credit it deserves. Why shouldn't animation be considered a genre? Why is Wes Anderson's dry humor is so great? Is Stephen LaGue the human version of Kylie the Opossum?
WARNING: Full spoilers for Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Witches by Roald Dahl is a beloved tale that teaches us many great lessons, like don't judge a book by its cover and you'll be ok no matter what if you've got some one who loves you.
But how does the 1990 movie starring Anjelica Huston and Rowan Atkinson hold up to the book? We find out in this episode of From Cover to Reel.
We talk about characters, plot points, themes, and... Scrappy Doo?
Frankie Gaffney, writer and activist was our guest for Episode 2 of Green Rebel. He speaks passionately to us on subjects close to his heart such as dialects, reading books, creating art, class equality and the curse of social media.
In this short interview, he manages to cover everything from Shakespeare through Joyce, via Marxism, Maya Angelou, Roald Dahl, politics, discrimination, racism, misogyny, Irish Twitter and accidentally emailing filthy sex scenes from his book 'Dublin Seven' to his mother. A Freudian click if ever there was one.
Frankie has gone from getting into "scrapes" with the Gardai to DJing to ultimately releasing a novel which ended up at the Number 1 spot in Hodges Figgis and is now lecturing in Trinity and completing a Ph.D. He is an outspoken activist both online and in real life. He truly believes that the love his Mother gave him for reading books from a young age has saved him from a life that could have gone differently. Frankie made for a captivating guest on this episode.

##Episode 10 | The BFG##
Spielberg and Disney in bed together, what brave new world do we live in? Is this a film where John Williams' compositions help or hinder the source material? Is this a film for the twenty-somethings, the parents or the children? Was this a film Spielberg should have done? These are just a few of the questions we get into this episode of They Came From the Silver Screen.
###Film Synopsis###
Ten-year-old Sophie(Ruby Barnhill) is in for the adventure of a lifetime when she meets the Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance). Naturally scared at first, the young girl soon realizes that the 24-foot behemoth is actually quite gentle and charming. As their friendship grows, Sophie's presence attracts the unwanted attention of Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater and other giants. After traveling to London, Sophie and the BFG must convince Queen Victoria to help them get rid of all the bad giants once and for all.

Christian and Andrew review The Wheeler Centre’s one night only event Revolting and Ridiculous: A Roald Dahl Retrospective. The event took place at the Athenaeum Theatre on July 7th.
"This year marks the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s birth – so the Wheeler Centre will get revolting and ridiculous on stage with guests including Andy Griffiths, Jess McGuire, Kate McLennan, Tim Rogers, Anna Burke and more. They’ll wax nostalgic, perform extracts from Dahl’s vast body of work, delve into the recurring themes of his stories and discuss the life of this incomparable, sometimes controversial, author." - The Wheeler Centre website.

Did you miss us? We're back with out c*ntsatcheliest episode yet. It's a fairly long one, but we cover a lot of films and everything from politics, mental health, television, dating elderly women. It's all here. For some reason, Andrew dragged Bernadette along to see The BFG. He's eternally sorry for his actions. Andrew saw Finding Dory and repeats mostly what's already been said about that film. A while ago Andrew and Bernadette watched The Conjuring 2 which Bernadette is convinced has a subtitle but really, after lots of googling, it appears it doesn't. Bernadette utilised some random free tickets we got in the mail to see Money Monster. And finally, the romantic comedy/drama/wunderkind film Hello, My Name is Doris is discussed. Oh, and after that, a bit of a long discussion about what you should watch on TV. Also, the Revelation Film Festival gets a look in as Andrew and Bernadette suggest some films to check out while the festival is on. We also seem to be joined by a neighbour's dog along the way as well.
