From 1972 to 1983 serial killer and bakery owner Robert Hansen abducted, raped, and murdered at least 17 women, many of whom he hunted after releasing them into the wilderness. 13 years after Hansen was apprehended, Scott Walker, with the help of Nicolas Cage and John Cusack, brought this story to the big screen in The Frozen Ground (2013).

On July 17, 1980, electrical workers outside of Anchorage uncovered the badly decomposed body of a woman buried in a shallow grave. She became known as Eklutna Annie and was the first in a series of murders to sweep across Southcentral Alaska. Sex workers started disappearing at an alarming rate. Was there a serial killer on the loose or were these vulnerable young women simply choosing to move on? As the bodies started to pile up and shell casings from a .223 rifle appeared at every crime scene, it was clear a deranged man with a lust for blood was on the loose. That man was Robert Hansen, the town baker. With a long history of arson, theft and abduction under his belt, Hansen was no stranger to darkness. His deep-seated resentment toward women resulted in a slew of gruesome murders that continue to haunt the Matanuska Valley to this day. We'll discuss Hansen's past, uncover how he was so easily able to murder so many women and memorialize the victims who tragically lost their lives to a monster. This one hits a little too close to home for Elise. It's a long walk home through the dark Alaskan night. Happy haunting!

This Serial Killer gave a true meaning to the term “Hunting for Humans”, this is the story of Robert Hansen the “Butcher Baker”.

Jonna had an on again and off again boyfriend, when they were “off” he was dating another woman. Eventually, a sleep-deprived Jonna got rid of her competition, but didn’t work out how to cover her tracks. Dani covers survivor Cindy Paulson. She survived Alaska’s first serial killer, Robert Hansen. This seemingly normal guy ended up kidnapping, torturing and assaulting women before flying them to a remote location. From there he’d promise to let them go, but would really hunt them like animals.

Serial killer Robert Hansen abducted and killed at least seventeen women and hunted many of them down in the Alaskan wilderness in the 1970s and 80s around Anchorage. This bakery owner and sport hunter was convicted in 1984 after confessing to killing seventeen women, mostly dancers and prostitutes, during a twelve-year reign of terror. Hansen led a very strange dual life - a happily married, donut-making father of two, while at the same time frequenting Anchorage's strip joints looking for young women to kidnap, rape, and then sometimes also hunt and kill.
