….. Check out The Soul Survivors Magazine for this month Dec. 22. You’ll see news reviews & interviews of Reg Hudson of the Hudson People, Blue Lab Beats, Soul Dogs, and Homage to Dez Parkes & Noel McKoy.

There are some great past issues of the Soul Survivors Magazine. There is an interview with George Duke of Issue 33 of Oct - Nov. of 2011. I think you can still purchase the magazine. Go to the soul survivors magazine.co.uk

Today’s topic is George Duke. He was a keyboardist, compose, sings-songwriter and record producer. He worked with numerous artists as arranger, music director, writer and co-writer, record producer and as a professor of music.

Duke recorded his first album in 1966. In 1977, Duke fused jazz with pop, funk, and soul music on his album From Me to You. Later, that same year, his album Reach for It entered the pop charts, and his audiences increased. In 1981, he began a collaboration with bassist Stanley Clarke that would last through the 1980s, which combined pop, jazz, funk, and R&B. Their first album contained the single "Sweet Baby",[11][12] which became a Top 20 pop hit.

Reaching a peak position of No. 19 on the US Billboard Hot 100, the single remained on the chart for a total of twenty weeks. On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, "Sweet Baby" reached No. 6

During the 1980s, Duke's career moved to a second phase as he spent much of his time as a record producer. He produced pop and R&B hits for A Taste of Honey, Jeffrey Osborne, and Deniece Williams. His clients included Anita Baker. Gladys Knight, Melissa Manchester, Barry Manilow, The Pointer Sisters, Smokey Robinson, Take 6, and more.

Duke received two Grammy Awards out of nine nominations. He won best Jazz Vocal Album in 2000 and 2001. He was inducted into The SoulMusic Hall of Fame at SoulMusic.com. George Duke died on August 5, 2013 in Los Angeles, at age of 67.
I’m Gail Nobles. Today’s Topic: George Duke.

He's the metal god!! Rob Halford has finally joined me on the Rockcast. After Rob was a regular guest on my old show, Hangar 19 it's been many years since I've sat down for a conversation with Mr. Halford, and the timing couldn't be better. Judas Priest are embarking on the 3rd leg of their 50 years of heavy metal tour celebrating their fantastic career. On top of that, Judas Priest are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (finally) this November.

Rockcast 234 - Marc LaBelle of Dirty Honey

Rockcast 234 - Marc LaBelle of Dirty Honey
Marc LaBelle is the lead singer of the LA band Dirty Honey, who blasted onto the scene two years ago and scored a number one hit with the song "When I'm Gone." That made them the first ever independent rock band to have a number one mainstream rock song. No label, it didn't matter. Now with their full length debut album out and their latest single "California Dreamin'" climbing those same charts, its high time we get an introduction to this band.

Rockcast 218 - Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless
Full disclosure when I set everything up for Taylor to return to the Rockcast it was my birthday and therefore wished me a happy birthday a couple of times. Besides that though we nerd out on guitar players, talk about building Pink Floyd puzzles and go in depth on the new album ‘Death By Rock and Roll’ and more specifically their two new songs “25” and “And so it Went.”
