Episode 64: Weird Era feat. Mona Awad

Episode 64: Weird Era feat. Mona Awad
About Mona Awad: Mona Awad is the author of the novels All’s Well, Bunny, and 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl. Bunny was a finalist for a Goodreads Choice Award and the New England Book Award. It was named a Best Book of 2019 by TIME, Vogue, and the New York Public Library. It is currently being developed for film with Bad Robot Productions. All’s Well was a finalist for a Goodreads Choice Award. 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl was shortlisted for the Giller Prize. Awad’s forthcoming novel Rouge, is being adapted for film by Fremantle and Sinestra. This spring, Margaret Atwood named Awad her ‘literary heir’ in The New York Times’s T Magazine. She teaches fiction in the creative writing program at Syracuse University and is based in Boston. About Rouge: From the critically acclaimed author of Bunny comes a horror-tinted, gothic fairy tale about a lonely dress shop clerk whose mother’s unexpected death sends her down a treacherous path in pursuit of youth and beauty. Can she escape her mother’s fate—and find a connection that is more than skin deep? For as long as she can remember, Belle has been insidiously obsessed with her skin and skincare videos. When her estranged mother Noelle mysteriously dies, Belle finds herself back in Southern California, dealing with her mother’s considerable debts and grappling with lingering questions about her death. The stakes escalate when a strange woman in red appears at the funeral, offering a tantalizing clue about her mother’s demise, followed by a cryptic video about a transformative spa experience. With the help of a pair of red shoes, Belle is lured into the barbed embrace of La Maison de Méduse, the same lavish, culty spa to which her mother was devoted. There, Belle discovers the frightening secret behind her (and her mother’s) obsession with the mirror—and the great shimmering depths (and demons) that lurk on the other side of the glass. Snow White meets Eyes Wide Shut in this surreal descent into the dark side of beauty, envy, grief, and the complicated love between mothers and daughters. With black humor and seductive horror, Rouge explores the cult-like nature of the beauty industry—as well as the danger of internalizing its pitiless gaze. Brimming with California sunshine and blood-red rose petals, Rouge holds up a warped mirror to our relationship with mortality, our collective fixation with the surface, and the wondrous, deep longing that might lie beneath.

Copilots Review Episode 65- Sonic Prime

Seems safe to say that Sonic as a property is seeing a pretty nice revival in popularity, especially with two fairly successful live action movies now under its belt. In fact perhaps its possible to even say that this is truly Sonic's prime at the very least that seems to be Netflix's opinion given their new Sonic series we decided to review this time, Sonic Prime.

    Jacek Takes A Bow

    Jacek Takes A Bow

Jacek Koman grew up in theatres, the son of two actors performing their way around Communist Poland in the 1950s and 1960s.

At school he’s more interested in learning Russian than stagecraft, by the time Jacek reaches university he decides to follow in their footsteps and go to drama school.

But, after a night out ends in a brush with the Polish secret police, Jacek and his brother make a run for the West.

Over the years, he rebuilds his career from scratch to become one of the Australia’s most cherished actors on stage and screen, with roles in Belvoir Street plays, The Secret Life of Us and Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge.

But Jacek’s rusty Russian also plays a reprising role when he’s called to become the front man of a band performing the songs of the Russian criminal underground.

MK215: Let's Put Some Wigs On (The Morning Show, Gayceañera, Tips for A Broken Heart, A Trans Journey, Moulin Rouge Broadway, SAG Awards, Rainbow Flag)

This week on the pod we’ve got Avi (they/them) LatinX Trans, non-binary, Queer artist and actor, a bit of a foodie, a fan of craft beer, loves a dance party, and currently searching for a hobby. We have so much fun today starting off with a little bit of good news! Some dope parents in Maryland through their child a Gayceañera! YAAAS! We debate the rainbow pride flag, and the commercialization of it. We both DEVOURED the Morning Show: It was amazing! It brought up some deep stuff for both of us around sexual assault, masculinity, sexism, and more. Though James was a bit distracted by someones wig. James saw Moulin Rouge on Broadway and may have been disappointed, representation matters even in your understudies. It's voting time- for SAG that is- and we both... forgot to vote!  But it shows how political and bullshit awards really are. When we jump into the Korners it is finally here: my 10 Tips for Healing Loss and a Broken Heart, we all experience loss in different ways and these 10 tips and tools can be used to heal as your heart reopens from whatever hurt you may have experienced. Avi takes us through a quote that has them thinking about a lot of things, which leads us into a beautiful conversation where Avi talks about their transition to becoming their full self, their journey to be being seen clearly for who they are.

#110 Police Shootings in Baton Rouge

#110 Police Shootings in Baton Rouge

Barry Nussbaum with guest, Pastor Aubrey Shines, discuss police shootings in Baton Rouge.

The American Truth Project, a non-profit (501c3) organization was launched because America’s national security is being threatened as never before. Our republic and the rights guaranteed by our constitution are facing dangerous new enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Our solution is to educate the public on the truths regarding critical security risks facing America, as well as our most strategic ally, Israel. There are few quality sources dedicated to this purpose.

Our team will investigate and reveal the factual nature and magnitude of these threats, and the best ways to address them. We, the people, have the right to know the truth. ATP is here to tell it.
