S2 009: James Badge Dale — Perfect is Boring: Winning with Your Imperfections // Lessons in Long-term Relationships With Yourself, Your Art, and Your Team

Today’s guest is a big believer in second chances. You may recognize him as Detective Ray Abruzzo in the brand new Starz’s series High Town, or from AMC’s Rubicon, or maybe the award-winning mini-series The Pacific. James Badge Dale is an actor who’s worked through the high and low levels of this game, turning him into an endlessly interesting, authentic, and raw storyteller.

He’s truly an example of how rewarding it is to give your craft those 10, 000 hours and to never give up. This man holds his own working alongside collaborators such as Scorsese, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Jeff Bridges, and Robin Wright to name just a few. You’ll hear how he learned to tune into his own instrument, and how he deals with that enigmatic audition room chair.

    The Historic Inglenook Estate Winery

    The Historic Inglenook Estate Winery

When I attended Wine and Spirits Magazine’s Top 100 Wines Tasting event in San Francisco this past October I had the chance to meet Chris Phelps, the associate winemaker at Inglenook Estate Winery. I jumped at the chance to do an interview with Chris. We finally made that happen in December. You may not realize this but Inglenook was one of the first estate wineries in Napa Valley, founded in 1879 by Finnish sailor (and early entrepreneur), Gustave Niebaum. Following its sale in the mid-60s the winery's quality and reputation suffered. Enter Francis Ford Coppola. Through his love and decades of painstaking efforts the winery is once again an internationally respected estate and remains a Napa Valley icon. This is its story.

EP. 41 Communicating to the Masses Lessons From a Spy

EP. 41 Communicating to the Masses Lessons From a Spy
Pete Turner guides organizations in developing and implementing content-based marketing strategies. These strategies are achieved by linking the tactical demands of the market with corporate goals/outcomes. The methods he employs were developed while advising US govt elements in conflict zones.  Through hundreds of interviews with industry leaders, Pete come to realize, the same "Ground Truth" focused practices that worked in Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia etc. also apply repeatedly and reliably to goals and outcomes in corporate settings. In all cases, creating desired emotional responses within the target audience leads towards consistently advancing market dominance.  Quality content and how it's presented, inspires clients/customers in ways that cannot be matched. Trading influence with industry peers and external influencers enhances the cultural impact of a company. NOTHING is more powerful than creating an externally-verified cultural change in one's favor.  The tactical base required to leverage a robust content-centric approach requires elements including: Branding, Voice, Influence, Digital Strategy, Social Media, SEO, SEM, etc. Pete analyzes and improves an organization’s ability to apply the correct tactics in a manner that creates constant tactical wins that feed strategic requirements.  Pete authored peer-reviewed and editorial board papers on topics like: "Transition Operations: A Discussion with 29 Articles," "On the Advancement of Human Rights: Exploring the Ethical Pitfalls of Female Engagement Operations," and "Promoting Political Development through Action Research: Evidence from Rural Afghanistan." We are talking to Amanda Burke about Team Rubicon the fastest growing disaster response NGO in the nation. Amanda Burke is the Region III administrator. Team Rubicon's primary mission is providing disaster relief to those affected by natural disasters, be they domestic or international. By pairing the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders, medical professionals, and technology solutions, Team Rubicon aims to provide the greatest service and impact possible. Through continued service, Team Rubicon seeks to provide our veterans with three things they lose after leaving the military: a purpose, gained through disaster relief; community, built by serving with others; and self-worth, from recognizing the impact one individual can make. Coupled with leadership development and other opportunities, Team Rubicon looks to help veterans transition from military to civilian life.   Links: www.teamrubiconusa.org
