Paul Poast: Will Putin Drop a Nuclear Bomb?

Paul Poast: Will Putin Drop a Nuclear Bomb?

In this episode, University of Chicago Professor Paul Poast joins me for a conversation. We explore the Russian Mutiny and its impact on the Russia-Ukraine war, as well as the implications for Putin's leadership. We discuss the historical context and events surrounding the mutiny, questioning its classification as a mutiny, insurrection, or coup. Analyzing the effect on the ongoing war, we examine how the internal conflict within the Russian military could prolong the conflict and assess Putin's strength as a leader. We review a full article discussing the mutiny's potential to extend the war, contemplate the possibility of Putin resorting to nuclear weapons to retain power, and examine the role of the United States in addressing the conflict. Additionally, we delve into the intersection between the Russia-Ukraine war and the upcoming 2024 Presidential Elections, consider the likelihood of Putin targeting Prigozhin, and highlight future indicators to watch for in the aftermath of the mutiny.

This was a timely conversation on an event that opened the eyes of the entire globe, and raised concerns about potential use of nuclear weapons, as well as the legitimacy of Putin's power in Russia.

The Inherent "Racism" Of America's Corporate America

The Inherent "Racism" Of America's Corporate America
Ben Stein and co-host Judah Friedman are joined by former Trump EPA chief of staff Mandy Gunasekara to discuss the effects of woke corporate culture in society and the ongoing war against Aunt Jemimah as well other corporate icons. Is erasure the path for progress? We don’t think so either. Plus we discuss the consequences of weak leadership from the White House and the destabilizing effects that is having on our security interests both here and abroad.

Back to the Brier ft. E.J. Harnden

Back to the Brier ft. E.J. Harnden

Provincial playdowns wrapped up this past week with eight more teams securing spots to the Tim Hortons Brier. Warren provides a rundown through how the field is shaping up so far.

Russian athletes competing as ROC aren’t fooling anyone. Should the IOC get tougher on state-sanctioned doping? Kevin and Warren weigh in as it was an issue in curling four years ago and has popped up again in other sports in Beijing.

What about alternating the hammer after every end? Our Mailbag segment answers what would happen and why it’s not the ideal solution. Finally, Kevin shares a funny tale in Storytime when his coach Jules Owchar wanted his big moment in Vancouver but was nowhere to be found.

E.J. Harnden from Northern Ontario’s Team Jacobs is our guest this week (17:20) to talk about heading to his 13th Brier, how the playdowns were held safely during COVID-19 restrictions, how Canada is doing in Beijing and what they could be doing to improve their draw-to-the-button shootout scores. Harnden also discusses why he’s a Brier purist and prefers the old format without any wild card teams, the balancing act of ensuring top teams and provincial representatives compete for national titles, how to ensure younger curlers have a path to the top and why he believes Northern Ontario has its own spot.

Harden also reflects on how he’s proud and grateful people credit his team for being at the forefront of change in curling by increasing the fitness aspect and seeing that continue to evolve.
