    Hitting the Books - "Unoffendable"

Hey! In this episode, we're "hitting the books!" Tune in for the first book review of the year, "Unoffendable," by Ryan Leak.

In short, how do we become less offended by what people say and do, and better yet, less offended by what they don’t say or do that we believe they should? The last part of the question has resonated with me the most.

I’d have to say that one of my favorite takeaways was the phrase "phantom discouragement." Phantom discouragement happens when you see someone else being complimented for something you consistently do. No one said anything negative to or about you, but they also didn’t acknowledge what you consistently do. Ryan says it better, “Phantom discouragement will put a negative spin and filter on everything positive around us that is not about us.”

    Leveling Up with Ryan Leak

My guest today is Ryan Leak.

You remember, we had Ryan on the show last year to discuss his book Chasing Failure. Chasing Failure is an absolutely incredible read and a top-five book for me last year and Ryan is back! Today, we catch up with Ryan and discuss his new book, Leveling Up which comes out today!

Ryan Leak is an author, speaker, executive coach, and filmmaker. He's known for two documentaries: The Surprise Wedding and Chasing Failure. The son of a preacher man, Ryan grew up in the church with a marketplace passion. Today, Ryan splits his time between speaking in churches and doing executive coaching and speaking in Corporate America through his company The Ryan Leak Group, LLC.

This show is dedicated to Ryan’s journey, this conversation is what we make it. This is Counsel Culture.

Ep. 122: People admire perfection from a distance, but they can’t relate to it. Most leaders believe that sharing their failures, shortcomings, and faults will make them less followable, and less respected. But author and motivational speaker Ryan Leak believes the opposite is true. Connection, not perfection, is the goal.
