222: Our Biggest Failures BONUS Episode + Even More Failures

In this very special #222 bonus episode of This Old Marketing, Joe and Robert take requests from Twitter. What could go wrong?

Alberto Gomez (@albermoire) asked Joe and Robert about their biggest failures. Since the boys only had an hour, they decided to cover just a few of the many, many failures in their young lives.

Doug Kessler (@DougKessler) asked about "what's next?" Joe covered voice and print. Robert covered drastic changes in governance. Both discussed the evolution of social media, with particular focus on Sacha Baron Cohen's recent ADL speech.

In rants and raves, Joe ranted about YouTube's FTC compliance system, while Robert discussed gratitude.

Episode 9 - Sacha Haworth, Political Director of American Bridge Super PAC

Episode 9 - Sacha Haworth, Political Director of American Bridge Super PAC

American Bridge is the largest research, video tracking and rapid response organization in Democratic politics. They find what Republicans are hiding and make sure voters hear about it. Sacha and Roger discuss how American Bridge tracks Republicans and what they do with the video or info when they find something; how, according to their polling, Trump is vulnerable with his own voters; their $50 million campaign to flip Trump voters in key swing states, and more.

    Episode 115 - Les Miserables (1:02:43)

    Episode 115 - Les Miserables (1:02:43)
We are joined by special guest, Alex Hay, to sing our way through the 2012 musical version of Victor Hugo’s, “Les Miserables”.

The film takes place in France during the early 19th century and tells the story of Jean Valjean who, while being hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, agrees to care for a factory worker's daughter. The story reaches resolution against the background of the June Rebellion.

It's a story of redemption for one character, and a relentless pursuit for another. There is love at first sight in the midst of a revolution that will never come.

Join us next week as we cover the movie "Brazil" in tribute to our friend, Lewis Liberman.

    Show notes: http://www.actualanarchy.com/115

    Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.com

Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective.

We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking.   Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter.

We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film.

The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film.

We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests.

Pop Rocket Ep. 184: "Who is America?" w/ "UnReal" Creator Sarah Gertrude Shapiro

Pop Rocket Ep. 184: "Who is America?" w/ "UnReal" Creator Sarah Gertrude Shapiro

We've got a SUPERSIZED Pop Rocket for our first-ever Friday release, so strap yourselves in! This week, Guy Branum, Karen Tongson, and Margaret Wappler are joined by TV powerhouse Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, co-creator and executive producer of the Lifetime drama Unreal.

The crew discusses the good, the bad, and the ugly of comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's new Showtime series Who Is America. Not unlike his previous series, Da Ali G Show, which aired on HBO in the early aughts, Cohen continues his controversial schtick of interviewing people in character while trying to get them to humiliate themselves all for our viewing pleasure. They draw the connections between Cohen's comedy and Sarah's show Unreal. The fourth and final season of Unreal recently came out on Hulu.

    Jonathan Gold

First, the crew pays tribute to the late, great Los Angeles food critic Jonathan Gold. Gold was the city's unofficial ambassador whose reviews propped up great restaurants on the verge of going out of business, gave a spotlight to forgotten histories, but more than anything taught Angelenos to be less afraid of their neighbors.

The Pop Rocket Seal of Approval

Two weeks ago Guy created the Pop Rocket Seal of Approval and quickly submitted its first nomination: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. This week we had enough of a quorum to hold our first-ever vote. Guy, Margaret, and Karen each weigh in with the pros and cons of awarding this prestigious honor to The Rock, and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro comes in hot with her own opinions (but no voting rights). Will The Rock earn Pop Rocket's first ever Seal of Approval? Find out!

With Guy Branum, Karen TongsonMargaret Wappler, and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro.

    That's My Jam:

Margaret - Demi Lovato - Sober.

Karen - Lisa Loeb - Stay (I Missed You).

Sarah- Nina Simone - Ain't Got No, I Got Life (Live).

Guy - Zedd, Maren Morris, Grey - The Middle .

You can let us know what you think of Pop Rocket and suggest topics in our Facebook group or via @PopRocket on Twitter.

'The Dictator' Review - Listen or Die

'The Dictator' Review - Listen or Die
In a tyrannous review of The Dictator, Screen Verdict discuss the latest shenanigans from Sacha Baron Cohen, or as we coin him, SBC (feel free to use this). Jonathan also shares his thoughts on his previous films and Matt struggles to pronounce them. The podcast takes a look at the premise of the film and reviews some of its strengths and weaknesses. Jonathan has to apologise for Matt as he systematically offends everyone and Chris Parnell makes his triumphant return to the podcast.

'Hugo' - You Go or No Go?

'Hugo' - You Go or No Go?
In this week's Screen Verdict film review Matt and Jonathan discuss the new Martin Scorcese film, Hugo. They look at the story of a boy who works in a clock tower, trying to repair a mysterious mechanical robot, which features the actors Asa Butterfield, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ben Kingsley and Sacha Baron Cohen. The podcast includes a surprise phone call, the 3D debate, why no one in France seems to speak French and a comparison of Hugo to previous Scorcese films. It concludes with a Screen Verdict rating and an update on our Moneyball actor game for the Oscars.
