How to Set Up Money Management Systems for Short-Term & Long-Term Goals

How to Set Up Money Management Systems for Short-Term & Long-Term Goals
This episode is a logistical examination of how to put systems in place that help you balance your short-term and long-term spending goals—after all, “saving” is really just another name for “deferred spending,” and the ideal scenario we’d find ourselves in is one in which the money we need is available to us whenever we need it.  It’s my hope that after listening, you’ll have a solid understanding of how to structure all of your savings and investing and—most importantly—you’ll eliminate the fear that you’re “missing something.” — Mentioned in the Episode - Atomic Habits by James Clear: https://jamesclear.com/atomic-habits — Follow Along - Listen to Money with Katie here: https://www.podpage.com/money-with-katie-show/ - Read Money with Katie: https://moneywithkatie.com/ Follow Money with Katie! - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/moneywithkatie/ - Twitter: https://twitter.com/moneywithkatie - TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@moneywithkatie   Subscribe to Morning Brew - Sign up for free today: https://bit.ly/morningbrewyt Follow The Brew! - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/morningbrew/ - Twitter: https://twitter.com/MorningBrew - TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@morningbrew Learn more about your ad choices. Listen To This Before You Spend Your Next Stimulus Check

Today’s episode is a GaryVee TV Classic! So many people make the mistake of getting their stimulus check and immediately spending it on something dumb that they do not need. There are so many things you can do with the opportunity this check provides. You could invest it, put it into your business, run ads with it to try and grow your personal brand, pay off some of your debt, and tons more but so many are going to blow it all on something unnecessary. If there is anything we can all take away from 2020 it is that saving is super important and you should never put yourself in a position to lose everything. Enjoy! Let me know what you thought.

Everything you need to know about savings - and why you should ditch the big banks

Everything you need to know about savings - and why you should ditch the big banks

In part one of two This is Money podcast specials, we tackle savings. When savings are mentioned, the first thought that springs to mind for many is: rates are low, what's the point?

In the latest This is Money podcast, assistant editor Lee Boyce and host Georgie Frost are joined by James Blower, the Savings Guru to explain why savings are important.

James has inside knowledge of the industry, having helped a number of challenger banks set up their savings business.

We talk about what the point of saving is and what you need to consider at different stages - and ages - of your life.

How do you save for your children, what about Isas, does higher risk equal higher reward and how do you save for a house?

We also talk about why the Financial Services Compensation Scheme is important and whether saving in cash over investing is ever a worthwhile exercise.

James takes us behind the scenes at how rates are set and reveals why he believes better deals are on the horizon for savers.

Furthermore, we call to action those who have left money languishing in poor paying accounts to help drive the banks and building societies to offer us better deals.

Join us next week for part two when editor Simon Lambert tackles everything you need to know about investing.
