S4 E1 Consent is a two way street

    Welcome to Season 4!

This season, we're changing things up a bit. Each episode, the kids interview clever adults who know a lot about each of the topics explored. And we're kicking off with an episode about consent.

Consent education is part of the school curriculum and you can read our latest blog on why this is critical in primary school. In this episode and at primary school, consent education is taught age-appropriately. It doesn't involve sex education but rather explores permission, how to know if you want to say yes, how to say no, and how to make sure you receive a no with respect.

Here at Grow Your Mind, we've been teaching the building blocks for consent since we began 6 years ago. Respectful friendships, emotional regulation, character strength education, emotional literacy, and listening to your body are key themes we teach in our program.

This episode, the students at Woollahra Public School interview Yumi Stynes - feminist television and radio presenter, podcaster, author, incredible cook, and human. Her book, Welcome to Consent, was recently named amongst the New York Public Library's Top 50 books of the year.

Along with Yumi's insights into the nuances of consent, there is also a story from the Guard Dog and the Sensitive Octopus about what enthusiastic consent really is and a brand new song in collaboration with Moody! Enjoy

The star of the show is the prefrontal cortex, aka The Wise Owl. And to help the kids overcome some really BIG disappointments, this week they call on perspective, self-regulation and perseverance.

    S3 E4 - Generous Assumptions (FRIENDSHIP & MISUNDERSTANDINGS)

This episode the 11 year old hosts jump into the world of assuming the best in the people around you. Full disclaimer, this is very hard to do! The hosts also share a trick for quieting those pesky self-limiting thoughts that come into your head. And like in Episode 3 - you dear listener get to choose the ending to the story!

The star of the show is the reticular activating system aka The Sifting Sooty and the hosts find out how social intelligence, curiosity and generosity can help them truly assume the best in others.

Inspiration for this episode came from the work, wisdom and research by social worker/story-teller Dr Brené Brown. We are MASSIVE fans of hers! Dr Brené Brown has transformed how the world and workplace think about vulnerability, courage, shame and empathy.  She has inspired us in earlier episodes when spotlighting the dance between fear and courage and at Grow Your Mind we live by 2 of her mantras: clear is kind AND stay awkward, brave and kind.
