Understanding school can’t and school trauma

Welcome to Episode 8 of the Yellow Ladybugs podcast series  4  "Supporting Autistic Girls and Gender Diverse Students at School and Beyond."

This podcast series is brought to you by the Victorian Department of Education and Training.

“Can’t. Not Won’t”. This important panel from our Supporting Autistic Girls and Gender Diverse students at school and Beyond Conference will explore the very hot topic of school “refusal,” and reframe this as school can’t. School can’t and school trauma are real issues for so many in our community and we explain why they cannot be solved with a tough love approach.

Katie Koullas  chats with Louise Rogers and Tiffany Westphall both amazing advocates and creators  of the school can't Facebook group and Nicole Bester an OT with both lived and professional experience.

Please note this episode does contain references to suicide ideality, depression and mental health issues.

Episode 34: Understanding the Micro-Traumas of Teen Girls with Nicole McDonald

Episode 34: Understanding the Micro-Traumas of Teen Girls with Nicole McDonald

Join Nicole McDonald, veteran school social worker, educator and parenting coach, and I as we explore the realities facing teen (and pre-teen) girls that can lead to school difficulties, anxiety, depression, declines in academic achievement and self-harming behaviors as well as disconnect from family and friends.

Learn what teachers, school staff and parents can do to support our students so that they can learn in a safe environment and feel supported in the challenges they face.

While our conversation does not include explicit language, it is intended for mature audiences... PG13 if you will.  We encourage you to share this episode with colleagues in an effort to end the silence and suffering that so many students face.
