Ep. #028 SquadCast Interview with Jeffrey Burandt and Sean Von Gorman of Ghost Planet

Ep. #028 SquadCast Interview with Jeffrey Burandt and Sean Von Gorman of Ghost Planet

Our latest spotlight interview brought us to a team of collaborators about to bring a sci-fi horror comic to stores near you this October. Writer Jeff Burandt and artist Sean Von Gorman have Ghost Planet releasing on October 19th from Scout Comics.

We spoke with the two creators about the inspiration for the book as well as the interesting history of what went into getting it published.  Ghost Planet is a forty-page one-shot comic about a family of space explorers that land on a planet with a terrible secret. The first two chapters were released on Webtoon as part of a weekly challenge.

This pair have been frequent collaborators and we talked about some of the cool things that they are working on besides Ghost Planet.

You can find some pics and a review of the comic on popculturesquad.com

Interview with Zack Kaplan to talk Forever Forward #1 - Out August 24

Art by Arjuna Susini with colors are by Brad Simpson and letters by Jim Campbell

    1. For our readers, what is Forever Forward?
    2. Do you have to create charts or a bulletin board to keep track of timelines/theories?
    3. I’m pretty surprised to see a book identify the invading force when so many choose to keep that vague. What made you decide to go ahead and say, “This is who we’re fighting?”
    4. There’s so much detail to the tech designs. How detailed was the lab description in the script? Same with the futuristic bits?
    5. The first issue uses a lot of double-page layouts instead of conventional layout structures, what made you go that route?
    6. Forever Forward is published under Scout, what made them the right publisher for this project?
    7. What is it about science going horribly right?
    8. Given the number of sci-fi stories you’ve got going this year alone, do you have a book of ideas that are yet untapped and how many good ideas are there?
    9. Do you have any other projects you’d like to talk about today?

Segment: Interview: Jon Davis-Hunt Shadowman #3 - Out June 23

    1. Jon, thanks for taking the time to join us on the AIPT Comics podcast [pause]....when you took on the gig of Shadowman, what were you most excited about drawing for the series?
    2. We know the pandemic affected the release of this title a bit, and with Shadowman #3 out next week I was curious how long has it been since you drew the issue?
    3. There are so many different types of horror in Shadowman, from body horror to demonic possession (and sometimes both at once). Do you have a particular horror subgenre that you’re drawn to?
    4. Shadowman #3 opens in Barcelona, have you been, and how important is it to get a specific location just right?
    5. The third issue also has a lot of variance with layout design, and honestly it really rips with the energy and multiple panel pages. What goes into making an 11 (or more!) panel page work?
    6. Samedi’s costume is rather detailed, and props to you it always looks slick in this book, how much are you kicking yourself going with such a detailed design?!
    7. Are there any horror movies you like to watch to get you in the headspace to draw Shadowman?
    8. What’s one moment you’ve seen in a script from Cullen where you’re like, “Damn, I can’t wait to figure out how this works on the page?”
    9. We talked to Cullen a little bit about this before, but the Nintendo 64 Shadowman game just got a re-release. Did you ever mess around with that back in the day?
    10. What comics are you reading right now?
