    About This Video:

In this episode of Apparel Success, Rob talks about how to start and grow a successful clothing brand in 2022. There are 3 main reasons people will buy a t shirt, hoodie, tank top, etc. Unfortunately, most people starting a clothing brand have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Starting a clothing line is easy but selling clothing is a difficult experience for most new entrepreneurs. The clothing brand tips shared in this video are underground secrets that only a small minority of clothing brand startups understand and apply. Use this knowledge to skyrocket your print on demand or inventory based clothing business. This info applies to all entrepreneurs but is specifically catered to clothing brands, clothing lines, t shirt businesses, fashion brands, streetwear brands, print on demand (POD), dropshipping and beyond!

S4E12, Part 2: Cartoonist Jaime Crespo

S4E12, Part 2: Cartoonist Jaime Crespo

In this podcast, Jaime picks up where he left off in Part 1, describing his evolution as an artist. Like a lot of kids his age, Saturday morning cartoons were a big influence. Comics in the newspaper also played their part.

We shift back to his return to SF after high school. He worked as a screen-printer at The Color Machine and Winterland. The music venue was closed, but Jaime shares stories of playing and seeing shows at The Mab back in the day.

Jaime dives into the street art scene in The City in the '80s, which he dabbled in. He also talks about his first publishing experiences. He took a brief break from his art and left San Francisco to raise a kid and go back to college. But his friend Harvey Pekar got him back into drawing about five years later.

He shares the story of starting Corn Tortilla Press (check out their About page for all the stuff in Jaime's life we didn't have time to talk about here).

Jaime ends the podcast reflecting on what's become of the city he used to call home and what's possible for the future of San Francisco.

Catch up with Babylon Burning's Mike Lynch in this special episode.

Mike talks about adjusting his business in the face of a major downturn, with many of his usual clients pulling back on T-shirt orders. While he normally keeps his screenprinting shop open, literally, to the public, his doors have been mostly closed during the pandemic. And 63 Bluxome Gallery, which is part of Babylon Burning, has been closed as well.

While the gallery isn't open, you can buy various merch that they make over at their Big Cartel site.

S3E22, Part 2: Nico Schwieterman on Fleet Wood and SF Creativity

In this podcast, Nico picks up where she left off in Part 1, with some office jobs she had when she first moved here before switching to screenprinting full-time. She met the folks who run Workshop SF, and starting screenprinting and teaching classes there. Through Workshop, she also started connecting with more creative, "work hard, play hard" types, which whom she identified. She decided to open her own business in 2015. Originally known as Studio Nico, Fleet Wood hit the five-year mark this February, just before shelter-in-place began.

We recorded this episode nearly two months ago, but we checked in with Nico yesterday, and she wanted to share the following in light of the uprising for racial justice:

"We would like to announce that we are pledging $5,000 to support Black and underserved youth in San Francisco. A portion of our daily sales will go toward funds for @larkinstreetyouth and Third Street Youth Center & Clinic (Bayview). We stand with our Black brothers and sisters to actively fight back against systemic racism. Read more about what we’re doing at ⚡️fleetwoodsf.com ⚡️"

Nico ends the podcast talking about running a retail business during quarantine.

Coldwater, OH, has seven stoplights, by Nico Schwieterman's last count.

In this podcast, Nico, who opened and owns Fleet Wood in the Tenderloin, shares stories of growing up in the small town of Coldwater. Her dad ran a shop where, as a kid, she helped him print shirts. She was your fairly typical teenager, and ended up going to college in Cincinnati. A college internship in 2004 brought her to San Francisco, and she was in love in the first half hour of being here.
