Better Because of Her - Video
Today we honor our mothers. The Lord placed mothers in a special role. The first woman was called Eve. The word means mother of all. In doing this, Adam was prophesying about the role that mothers would hold in the world. Mothering is more than biological. It is a gift given to every woman that is part of their identity and nature. A mother influences life like no one else can. The root of the word mother comes from pictographic symbols that depict strength and the glue that holds life together. No influence is more enduring and effective than that of a mother to her children. Our text from Exodus is the story of Moses’ birth. All male Israelite children his age were to be put to death. Moses’ mother had the courage, faith, and love to risk her own life to save her son. The influence she had on Moses’ life changed the course of Israel, and the world. A mother has the capacity to see things in her children that they do not recognize in themselves. This is more than a woman’s intuition, it is a God-given gift. Women have the capacity to see and visualize a beautiful future. Moses never lost the impact and influence that his mother had as she raised him. When he came of age, he refused to be the son of Pharaoh's daughter choosing instead a life of poverty and hardship to be true to himself. A mother’s love can change the world. The world is better because of her.
