“He has made glorious…Galilee”. As the new day of hope dawned, the first rays of light shone in Galilee. Isaiah foretells that the victory of this Child [v.4-5] will be as unusual and unlikely as the victory over Midian. Unlikely, yes - but it will come, and with it the end of all conflict. The reason this Child is born is so that He might become Immanuel, God with us. His name is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Jesus took our place to give us His peace. Peace floods the soul when Christ rules the heart.

Isaiah 9:2 states, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” What was the light that they saw? Israel and Judah's failure to measure up to God's mark brought them suffering at the hand of other nations. God gives a child and a son going first to the rebellious despised people that they may see the merciful and righteous reign of His everlasting King.

There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.” (Isaiah 9:6–7 NAS95)
