The Samaritan woman at the well

Jesus encountered a woman who needed exactly what he had to offer - living water. He saw past how others saw her, and met her exactly at the point of need.

In the fifth installment of the Gospel to Every Home Series, we look at the account of Jesus' ministry to the Samaritan Woman. We learn much about how the Gospel reaches beyond prejudice, racism and sexual discrimination. To faithfully share the Gospel, we must listen well, care for the whole being and share truth.

In this classic story of the woman at the well, Rory explains why Samaria was sort of a "no-go" area for Jews. Nevertheless, Jesus was called to travel through there where he met the Samaritan woman. She had three strikes against her: she was a Samaritan; she was a woman; and she was living in adultery. Lovingly, He confronted her that she needed to be saved and experience the living water of the Holy Spirit. Satisfaction on any level will fade away – except for the life-giving Spirit of the Living God.

Anthony of Egypt taught us how to leave the polarizing debates that destroy our culture. As we look at his life and his culture we're drawn to the way Jesus refused to be dragged into binary debates at the expense of real people.
