John the Baptist. If ever there was a man whose convictions and faith were so solid that the word "doubt" might be taken as offensive, it would be John. Yet, here we are. At the time of the events in Luke 7, we find that John is in prison (see Matthew 11 for this detail), and his disciples are keep him informed about Jesus' incredible ministry. So John send them to ask if he really is the Messiah. Have you ever been sure, but needed to be really sure? That's when John sent for word from Jesus. A great place to start!

Because we are all fickle in our faith, we can disclose our doubts to Jesus, and we must receive the response He gives.

Knowing It By Seeing It

Our journey continues in Luke this week, looking at 7:18-28, as we focus on the struggles and disillusionment of John the Baptist. How do we reconcile Jesus' own words about John being greater than any other man born of woman, and the struggles John had about Jesus being who he expected Jesus to be? Jesus didn't look or act like John expected Him to and that is causing John tension! The question we will ponder... How do we react when Jesus does not respond the way we expect Him to respond?
