22. Romans 2:1-5 Calvary Chapel Elk Grove Pastor Phil Ballmaier 7-19-23 Tonight Pastor Phil turns his focus to Chapter 2 of Romans. Isn't it true that we tend to compare ourselves to others—particularly when it comes to our sin? And our sin tends to look much worse when others are committing them. The Lord calls us to examine ourselves. Should we look to others and compare ourselves to them as our standard for righteousness? Indeed not! The only standard we should measure ourselves by is Jesus, our Righteous God. When we choose to look at others sins, we tend to be much harsher, condemning and judgmental. . The Apostle Paul brings it out here in Romans 2. There is only One Judge.. Keep in mind when you point a finger at others, you have three fingers right back at you! In other words—keep your eyes on Jesus! Paul chose Rome for a reason when he went out to preach. Firstly, because God had sent him, but because Rome was a central 'point of the world' as 'all roads lead to Rome'. So if he shared the Gospel there, whomever received it would carry God's Word, and the testimonies of Paul and the work they'd seen done out into the four corners of the world. Often referred to as the Gospel according to Paul, and the greatest book ever written, Paul's letter to the Romans will become our focus as Pastor Phil continues to lead us through the Word of God. What does God's kindness lead us to? Romans 2:4 tells us!

In this passage, Paul turns his attention to the sin of being judgmental. He rebukes those who judge sins in other people but are doing the very same things in their lives. If God has brought you to understand what sin is, His kindness was to lead you to repentance not to cause you to stand in judgment over others.
