In this episode, we will be speaking with Captain Paul Watson about his new foundation.  Captain Watson explains his current relationship with Sea Shepherd and the different chapters around the globe.

We had a few technical difficulties with this first episode, but we are working on it. We will be catching Captain Watson as he travels around the globe. Some phone calls, especially during campaign season might be a tad spotty. We apologize in advance.

Kate Parker - Daughters of the Deep - S03 E02

Kate Parker is a full-time paediatric Speech Pathologist but in her spare time has been a volunteer with Sea Shepherd since 2015, originally taking on a role as an onshore volunteer helping to raise funds through selling merchandise at events and sharing the work of the organisation through outreach and education. She then progressed to offshore crewing and has been on 7 campaigns with Sea Shepherd, starting out as deck crew and most recently Bosun and is now about to head off on another campaign as an officer in the Bridge.

Kate also crews with the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard and spends most weekends out on the bay training and recovering vessels in distress. Kate has been working her way up for the last 4 years and is soon to take her Coxswains license to become a Skipper for the organisation.

Kate also launched her own charity last year called ‘Daughters of the Deep’ which is now a globally registered group whose aim is to address gender inequality throughout the marine industries. With her team of 4 colleagues they help raise the profile of women in such roles as well as fundraise to support women into their own marine based careers.

    Rebecca Griffiths - Freediving photography & conservation - S02 E14

    Rebecca Griffiths - Freediving photography & conservation - S02 E14

Rebecca Griffiths first grabbed my attention via Instagram.  Her account displays some beautiful photographs which I recognised instantly as having had minimal post-shot editing (quite a rare commodity these days).  I continued to follow for a while and found that she was not only a photographer but a diver, free-diver and conservationist too.

As a youngster, Rebecca developed a life-long love for nature whilst living on the southern shores of England.  Fast forward a number of years and she's swapped out the white cliffs and overcast skies for the much warmer,  bluer waters off the Sunshine Coast, Australia.

Keen to protect the oceans inhabitants Rebecca picked up a camera whilst simultaneously becoming a volunteer with Sea Shepherd. This has led to her representing and documenting 6 campaigns at home, and overseas with them.

Today we take a more in-depth look at Rebecca's storyline and how Freediving is more advantageous during the efforts she is currently involved in.  As well as discussing her passion and thoughts on photography.

Rebecca is very humble about her achievements, and I feel that she is a shining example of how an individual can be loud and make a statement without  the need of a bellowing voice.  I believe she has only just started her journey so I'm looking forward to what the future may hold for her and her talents with a camera.

Samuel Rostøl - The Grind: Whaling in the Faroe Islands - S02 E11

Samuel Rostøl - The Grind: Whaling in the Faroe Islands - S02 E11

Earlier this year Norwegian born Samuel Rostøl decided to leave mainstream employment as a nurse so that he could focus all of his available time on supporting animal activism.   Soon thereafter, Samuel was invited to join Sea Shepherd in the Faroe Islands as they documented the annual Grindadrop or Pilot Whale hunts.  His footage has shone an even brighter light on the islands and albeit he casts an imposing figure, Samuel's approach to activism is far from that which most would assume.  During this episode Samuel explains the Grind, the animosity, violence and threats to kill and also the silent support and the reasons behind the reluctance of locals wishing the Grind to halt.

On Sunday 12th September the Grind slaughtered 1,428 Atlantic White-sided Dolphins. Albeit this podcast is predominantly non-political I feel the need to include such activity to assist in creating a global response for the betterment of the animals involved.

Episode 11 - A Glimpse into the Life of an Eco Pirate | Paul Watson

Episode 11 - A Glimpse into the Life of an Eco Pirate | Paul Watson
    Welcome to the SANUSPLANET Podcast!

For this episode we have an amazing interview guest again: Captain Paul Watson!
Captain Watson was co-founder of Greenpeace in it's early years and created his own marine conservation organization in 1977, called Sea Shepherd. Sea Shepherd was the subject of a reality show named "Whale Wars". This American reality television series followed the Sea Shepherd fleet off the coast of Antarctica, where they attempted to stop the killing of whales by Japanese vessels in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

Today there are thousands of volunteers supporting Sea Shepherd in the protection of whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles and all marine wildlife. Watson's most repeated message is: "If the ocean dies, we die." It is as simple as that. That is the reason, why he fought his whole life to protect the ocean.

Today Sea Shepherd is working in cooperation with governments to end illegal fishing and is one of the most effective marine conservation organizations worldwide.

Our activist Magdalena Gschnitzer volunteered for years on Sea Shepherd campaigns herself. In this interview you will hear not only many extreme stories of Paul Watson's life, but you will also hear about the reasons, why ocean conservation is one of the most important things to do.

Enjoy this interview between Maggy and Captain Paul Watson!

Trying out something new with this episode, entitled "Surface Interval."  My idea is that once a month we have a few people in the studio and have a wee catch-up with what's caught our eyes in the scuba news from around the world.

I'm joined by an old favourite, Don Silcock and a newbie to the show, Lissa Rebec.
Don and Lissa both come to the show with some big announcements linked to their involvement with Scuba Diver magazine and Sea Shepherd respectively.

During this episode, topics range from conservation to travel, upcoming documentaries to home-based Australian diving, the Philippines, Indonesia, the Maldives and the Bahamas. All whilst having a beer, or in Lissa's case, a cup of tea.

Episode 154: Captain Paul Watson & If the Oceans Die We Die

Episode 154: Captain Paul Watson & If the Oceans Die We Die

“If the oceans die, we die. We all have a vested interest in making sure life in the sea is not diminished.”

On this week’s episode of the Eat Green Make Green Podcast I sit down with the legendary Captain Paul Watson. Captain Paul is the Founder & President of the famous Sea Shepherd, an international non-profit with a worldwide presence and a mission to protect all marine animals, widely known from the hit show Whale Wars on Animal Planet and most recently featured in the Netflix documentary Seaspiracy. We talk about how an experience as a child led him toward protecting wildlife, why he founded Sea Shepherd, why Sea Shepherd takes an aggressive approach to protecting the seas, the immense damage of commercial fishing, the wild west nature of the seas despite existing laws, why there is no sustainable commercial fishing operation anywhere in the world, the power of film and media for Sea Shepherd over the years, what projects Sea Shepherd is currently working on around the globe, the power of focusing on what we can do in the present moment, what we can do individually to help the oceans, why nothing gets accomplished without risk, and why if the oceans die we die.

    Paul Watson - whale warrior

    Paul Watson - whale warrior

Paul Watson is the founder and face of Sea Shepherd - the marine conservation organisation. He's also well known for his interventionist approach to protecting whales and other marine creatures.

Watson has spent 50 years as an environmental activist. Some of the details of his exploits we've included in our profile of Paul Watson - www.environmentshow.com/paul-watson

Phil Stubbs recently interviewed Paul Watson to ask about life for him now, what he’s learned about activism, and the challenges for the natural world from human activity.

Phil had interviewed Watson ten years ago in the midst of the ‘Whale Wars’ taking place between the Japanese whaling fleet and Sea Shepherd in the Southern Ocean (with Watson on a satellite phone from his ship in the Antarctic.) Listen to Phil's original interview.

One result of those clashes is the Japanese are no longer conducting whale hunts in Antarctic Waters. But Paul Watson is also now contending with legal restrictions slapped on him by the Japanese to prevent him from travelling and going to sea against them.

Watson doesn't mince his words. In this post, you'll find a collection of Paul Watson's best quotes - www.environmentshow.com/paul-watson-quotes
