Can we ship containers on autonomous, hydrofoiling speed boats yet? (Max Olson, CEO/Founder, Seachange)

Can we ship containers on autonomous, hydrofoiling speed boats yet? (Max Olson, CEO/Founder, Seachange)
This is the story of a brilliant mechanical engineer in his 20s named Max Olson who had a crazy idea of how to revolutionize container transportation on the ocean. Contrary to what everybody else in the industry is doing - building larger and larger container vessels for economies of scale - Max set out to design small, hydrofoiling, remote-controlled speed boats that could carry 3 standard size ocean containers from China to the US West coast in less than 5 days. Instead of the normal 15 days of transit time. How Max came up with this crazy idea, how the prototypes look like, and if his idea has any chance of becoming a viable business any time soon, all of that and more is covered in this episode of The Logistics Tribe. Hosted by Jonah McIntire. Links: Seachange: https://www.goseachange.com/ Max Olson: https://www.linkedin.com/in/max-olson-241471123/

Hunter Leonard from Silver & Wise on ageism and missed opportunities

Hunter Leonard from Silver & Wise on ageism and missed opportunities

Hunter Leonard talks to @smallbusinessbanter about how and why he started www.silverandwise.com.au.

    In the episode we cover;

    • The ageism brick wall and the frustration of a job search
    • The different ways Western and Eastern cultures value their elders
    • Why it's time for mature aged workers to take control and how, even if they may not see it clearly, that they have value to add
    • The need to improve self awareness to help identify and better promote your 'hidden' value and skills
    • Why finding your purpose is so critical and how it can lead to being happier and healthier
    • The upside of adopting a 'small business owner' mindset
    • Research from the https://humanrights.gov.au/our-work/age-discrimination which Hunter has analysed.  In summary he says  that major barriers start to appear for people in the 45 to 50 year age group, and worryingly even earlier for women
    • How the gig economy and freelancing  are outstanding opportunities to build an income around a lifestyle
    • Where starting up or buying an existing business fits in to the 'self employment' picture
The weird and wonderful assumptions made about mature aged people
    • And I said, well, I do not really care what age they are, as long as they can do the job. And they're interested in being part of ours, our group.

Philosophy In Film - 029 - The Grey

Philosophy In Film - 029 - The Grey

The Philosophy In Film podcast returns with a long-anticipated discussion of Joe Carnahan's 2012 Survival Film "The Grey".  While all three co-hosts are willing to acknowledge some issues with the film, it does set the stage for an engaging conversation about the inevitable struggle against mortality, Nietzsche, existentialism, Dermott Mulroney's ability to sneak into a movie without being noticed, and the fringe theory that the The Grey may actually take place within Ridley Scott's "Alien" universe.
