    2021 Year in Review

Frances and Andrew let their hair down and do a quick review of some of the stories that made the ocean news pipeline in 2021. Stories include, but are not limited to, the UN Decade of the Ocean, 30 by 30 ocean protection, the circling hellhole of the ocean on fire, the Netflix shockumentary "SeaSpiracy," and more!

Lecture #2: Sustainable Fishing, a Seaspiracy? With prof. Simon Bush

Lecture #2: Sustainable Fishing, a Seaspiracy? With prof. Simon Bush
If we are led to believe the popular Netflix documentary Seaspiracy, we should immediately stop consuming anything that lives underwater. But is this really the way to save the oceans? Professor Simon Bush disagreed with the conclusions drawn in the documentary. Although it does rightfully shed light on some instances of abuse within the fishing industry; it focusses on the wrong problems. So what is going wrong at open sea? ---------- Follow us Instagram: http://bit.ly/2ITWLpA Facebook: https://bit.ly/2yeHbE3 Website: https://bit.ly/3ertHFQ

    Sainte!

Episode 6 - Intelligence-Based Strategies for Ocean Conservation | Gary Stokes

Episode 6 - Intelligence-Based Strategies for Ocean Conservation | Gary Stokes
    Welcome to the SANUSPLANET Podcast!

Today we have a very special podcast episode for you, because it's about a topic that is very important to our activist Maggy: marine conservation.
In this episode you will get to know Gary Stokes. Gary was director of Sea Shepherd Asia for many years and then started his own organization, OceansAsia.
In 2016 Maggy met Gary in the streets of Hong Kong, where they documented the legal and illegal shark fin trade.

Gary on OceansAsia: "OceansAsia is a marine conservation organization based in Asia. We practice 'Intelligence Based Conservation' whilst investigating illegal operations in the wildlife trade, IUU fishing on the high seas or tracking down the sources of marine debris.
Utilizing the latest technologies to gather information and backed up by our research team, we aim to bring a 'no compromise' approach to marine conservation issues."

If you want to find out more about Gary Stokes and Oceans Asia, check out the films "SEASPIRACY" or the brand new film by Eli Roth "FIN". Gary plays a key role in exposing the illegal shark fin trade.

    Ep.7 Bren Smith: Ocean Gardens

    Ep.7 Bren Smith: Ocean Gardens

A commercial fisherman turned kelp and oyster farmer, Bren’s award-winning book, Eat Like a Fish, shows us how our oceans offer up a scalable solution to our global climate crisis.

Breaking down the walls between land and sea, learn about Bren’s polyculture farming model with GreenWave and his regenerative ocean farm on Thimble Island. We talk about how kelp is set to be the superfood of the future, with Bren telling us that it contains more vitamin C than orange juice, more calcium than milk and more protein than soybeans. Plus, it has the power to sequester five times more carbon than land-based plants.

This is a profoundly personal episode that brings us real hope for the future.

What’s going on with fish in West Africa?

What’s going on with fish in West Africa?

Superfood sardines, omega three and the ultimate brain food… fish is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet, but overfishing is putting them at risk of destruction, and the local people who rely on them, says environmental social scientist Christina Hicks in the latest episode of the Climate Curious podcast. Tune in with co-hosts Maryam Pasha and Ben Hurst to explore why this topic feels so icky (hint – it’s a wicked problem!), why we need to open our eyes to the inefficiencies of white environmentalism in order to save the planet, and how to recognise when simple climate solutions are being pedalled to you. From what insiders are really saying about that infamous fish documentary (you know the one!), to why fish is crucial to the first 1,000 days of human's mental and physical development, dig into the real deal around the troublesome topic of oceans, seas, and fish!

    Eat No Shark

    Eat No Shark

Sneaking me into auction rooms of fish markets, filling me in on the worse in the trade, and confirming all my fears of the shark industry my insider, William Bunker, tells all.

Will comes from a background of carefully and sustainably sourced seafood, but before that, he witnessed some horrific things in the industry.  His help lead me to conduct several genetics and mercury tests on shark meat throughout Australia. When I started the testing, I had no idea what I would find. I certainly didn’t expect to find multiple infractions. I didn’t know I could walk down to a local store and buy a tiger shark steak, I never imagined finding the results of mercury levels in sharks that I did. In this episode, we talk about why eating shark is not just a bad idea for shark's health, but also for ours.

    45. Is Seaspiracy worth seaing? (Not debunking)

Nature N8 is too old and tired to debunk any more bad environmental hogwash baloney. So he’s definitely not debunking Seaspiracy, the new 2021 Netflix documentary that's trending all over social media and press coverages. Nope. Not doing it.
