Ryan Hannam: Free Agency Dilemma -- Follow Your Heart or Take The Money?

Ryan Hannam: Free Agency Dilemma -- Follow Your Heart or Take The Money?
Ryan Hannam, former NFL TE, joins Pro Mindset host Craig Domann and shares his football journey from Northern Iowa to the Seattle Seahawks and the Dallas Cowboys. Ryan played tight end and was drafted in the 5th round of the 2002 NFL Draft. Ryan played in 58 NFL games during his career including Super Bowl XL (2006) with the Seahawks and caught two passes in the Super Bowl.

Ryan talks about the biggest adjustment going from 1-AA Northern Iowa to the NFL. His philosophy was simple: Put your head down and work hard until somebody tells you not to come to work. He mentions that NFL players are bigger and faster, but there is a place for players with borderline athletic ability if they are reliable, consistent and trustworthy.

Ryan shares his free agency experience after his contract expired in Seattle. He loved Seattle and planned to come back, however, the Dallas Cowboys made an offer he could not refuse and the Seahawks wished him the best. Ryan gives vivid details of the day he spent in Dallas and getting an excellent offer in free agency but was still expecting to return to Seattle. Finding out signing with Dallas was in his best interest was an eye opener for him. He calls it his “cold water in the face” moment.

Ryan is very transparent about his experiences, expectations and his adversities. He talks about the life lessons he has taken from his NFL career and has carried them forward in his business career and in coaching his two daughters. Ryan was inducted into the ISHSAA Hall of Fame in November, 2020. He is a Partner at Financial Designs, LLC in Cedar Falls, IA.

Circa Million NFL Betting Picks Week 8 October 30, 2020
Host Adam Burke is 21-13-1 so far in the Circa Sports Million II, but there is a ton of work to be done because that great start is still 2.5 points out of the money. With that in mind, Adam dug deep into this Week 8 card to find some likely picks and leans that will make up the five selections for this week in the contest. Before talking about his thoughts, Adam ran through last week’s results and updated the standings as $287,000 in second quarter prizes will be handed out in the Circa Million this week.

After a lay of the land and those updates, it was time to get to the games. Adam talked about three very likely picks and a set of four leans on this segment. He discussed some stats, trends, matchup angles, weather conditions, and some of the line values that are out there on the seven games of interest, with special attention paid to the likely picks and the strongest of the leans. Whether you agree or disagree, at least you got some good information on those sides as you look to finalize your NFL plans as well.

Zach Miller, former TE, Seahawks: My Dream as a Kid ... Super Bowl XLVIII Champion!

Zach Miller, former TE, Seahawks: My Dream as a Kid ... Super Bowl XLVIII Champion!
Zach Miller, a TE, was the 38th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft out of Arizona State by the Oakland Raiders. Zach played for the Raiders for four seasons and then for the Seattle Seahawks for four seasons during which he won the XLVIII Super Bowl with the Seahawks.

Zach shares with NFL Agent and Pro Mindset host Craig Domann his dedication to be a professional and focus his energy on being the best tight end that he could be. Whether that was in the weight room or in the film room, making plays, or doing whatever was asked of him as a team player, Zach shares he would do everything over again, even playing through injury. He tore both his plantar fascia in an NFC divisional game in 2012 and got injected so he could play and went on to have approximately 140 receiving yards in the game.

In reflecting on his Super Bowl season with the Seahawks, Zach shares that his head coach Pete Carroll, one of the best coaches he ever played for, talked about winning the Super Bowl constantly. Coach Carroll emphasized “never giving up on a play and never giving up on a moment because any one play can completely change the game.” That's how you build a championship and compete for multiple championships.

Zach gives his perspective on the difference between the NFL and college: “While the speed is different, the hits are different, the athletic ability is different, it's every week you're going against someone that's probably a Pro Bowler or a really good player. There is no offweek like there is in college. Some guys can just dominate with athletic ability in college but that is not the case in the NFL. You win some but you also lose a lot of battles in the NFL. You have to be good mentally (short-term memory has to be incredibly short) as you have to remember almost nothing of the play before but just refocus on whatever job you have to get done on the next play.”
