This is the English translation of our Spanish Speakers meeting from Columbia, Spain and Argentina. Thank you Manuel G for simultaneous translation from English to Spanish and Spanish to English. This was the 5th biennial International Conference of Secular AA featuring Spanish/English and French/English programing. We hope to do more to reduce barriers and help people connect with each other who seek an irreligious approach to Alcoholics Anonymous.

This is an awesome recording; we are hyping the content - not the sound quality. This is a meeting recorded on ZOOM so some who share are crystal clear, others are a little funky - but the content is great from evereyone. And it's a long one, just less than two hours.

This is all about the book We Are Not All Egomaniacs: Adapting the 12 Steps for Alcoholics with Low Self-Esteem.

If you're asking, "What's that?" This audio is for you; it is PJ giving a history of this Sydney Australia based Zoom meeting, Beth H the author talking about how she never related to Bill W's ego problem in need of deflation. Then we get a feel of the book.  Like a podcast Step-Study, members read selections from Beth's book and reflecting on their own experience. It's a Steps 1 to 3 workshop with a refreshing approach.

If you know and love this book, go get it and read along; it will be like being there.

This was the 5th biennial International Conference of Secular AA, held on Zoom October 29th and 30th, 2022.  Our first was Santa Monica 2014, Austin was 2016, Toronto in 2018 and Washington DC was scheduled for 2020 but COVID moved us online, allowing us the flexibility to meet every year + have our first European #ICSAA in 2021.

The fifth biennial ICSAA - International Conference of secular Alcohlics Anonymous was online. Originally booked for Washington DC, health concerns prompted committee members to meet on Zoom this year. Previously, we have been to Santa Monica (2014), Austin (2016) and Toronto (2018). Our first attempt to meet in Washington was 2020 and as all members of peer to peer support groups for people with addiction know, COVID-19 has steered us to better use of technology such as Zoom meetings. 

We offered simultaneous translation in Spanish/English and French/English this year, finding a way to reduce barrier and build bridges with current technology. Mario from Montreal Quebec and Chantal of Greek/French heritage both share their story. Also, we hear about the history of the leaflet The “God” Word: Agnostics and Atheists in AA which started in Great Britain and is now available in Spanish, French and English.

In the heart of early pandemic early opening, two Jersey City members long for a secular AA option without having to commute to Manhattan, so they did something about. Friday Night AA Happy Hour held its first meeting in Jersey City NJ April 1, 2022. Hear from the locals; Jersey City hosts our International Conference of Secular AA "First Sunday of the Month secular AA world tour meeting" September 4, 2022.

For atheists, freethinkers, humanists etc., who are looking for relatable written versions of recovery a la Alcoholics Anonymous, reviews have varied widely through AA history. Seven million copies of Living Sober are in circulation, AA's 1975 offering of the practical experiences of hundreds of thousands of accounts and AA anecdotes from AA's first forty years is appreciated by many. AA Grapevine has printed the experiences of unabashed atheists since the 1960s. 

It wasn't until decade two of the 21st century did AA's publications devote ink to the agnostic/atheist recovery stories in earnest. This recording offers an hour in AA History with Dianne P of Toronto chairing and featuring:

1. John L from Boston, sharing about Living Sober coming off the press when he was a New York City AA members and  the usefulness of this down to earth AA offering for secular AA meetings through the years, 
2. Susan of Bristol UK, talking about secular AA in England and how the Great Britain 2014 The "God" Word: Agnostics and Atheists in AA came to be,  
3. AA Grapevine publisher, Amy B of New York City talks about the hot-off-the-press October 2016 Grapevine special issue on secular AA storytelling.

  The setting is the We Agnostics, Atheists and Freethinkers International AA Conference, November 2016 in Austin Texas - the second biennial International gathering for secular AA members. Since this recording, One Big Tent: atheist and agnostic AA members share their experience, strength and hope did get published just in time for the 2018 Toronto International Conference of Secular AA and holds the title of the AA Grapevine book with the most pre-publication order of any published offering.

The International Conference of Secular Alcoholics Anonymous all day Zoom event's grand finale, held December 11th, 2021, was a reading from AA conference approved Living Sober with discussion to follow. Chairperson, Geri B of Las Vegas NV spoke about the value of the practical book of AA life:  Living Sober. This 1975 record of the first 40 years of collective AA experience (updated as needed), is the centerpiece for Living Sober meetings for decades. 
Throwing the choice of topic and chapter out to participants, we settled on Chapter 24 about relationships, sex and intimacy in AA sobriety with reading and sharing from around the world.

North American and European youth join in for the 2021 International Conference of Secular AA ( #ICSAA ) to talk recovery over Zoom. Join Teun, Zoe, Adam and Lina, who kick off the conversation; joining in are fellow atheists, agnostics and freethinkers in Alcoholics Anonymous.

AA is a peer-to-peer community where people get and/or stay sober. All AA groups are autonomous, secular AA appeals to people seeking a practical, irreligious AA experience. The International Conference of Secular AA started as an in-person gathering in Santa Monica in 2014. We were in Austin in 2016, Toronto  in 2018 and when the 2020 Washington DC conference was postponed, we have moved to Zoom where this growing minority of secular AA reinforce our creed: we can find sobriety in AA without accepting anyone else's beliefs  nor denying our own. "Love and tolerance of others is our code."

June 19th, 2021 was the first European hosted International Conference of Secular Alcoholics Anonymous (ICSAA) and it was two Zoom rooms, 11 AM - 11 PM. Attendees were largely delighted with the days events.

The grande finale was an around-the-world AA discussion of the brief history of Zoom & AA, with opening comments by Mark from Tus Nua Freethinkers and Joe from Beyond Belief Agnostics & Freethinkers meeting in Toronto. A lively and heart-felt discussion follows from AAs talking about the age of Zoom around the world, capping off 12-hours of agnostic and atheist AA meetings.

This was the first time ICSAA was hosted outside USA/Canada and based on the enthusiasm, it will not be the last. Next year?
