Ep. 5 - A Salute to Comradeship: Revisiting Military Memories with Mastermind Stough

As we embark on this journey of heartwarming camaraderie and remembrance, we're joined by our guest, Stough, the mastermind behind a phenomenal reunion of 3-6 Lima and the Semper Fi Fund in Houston, TX. What began as a simple conversation on a ferry led to our brothers-in-arms coming together for a weekend of shared stories, frisbee golf, some good old belly laughter, and quite a bit of beer. Brace yourself for a wave of nostalgia as we relive stories from our time in service, the hilarity of nicknames like 'Marborlo Man' and 'Quagmire.'

This podcast episode is a roller coaster of emotions as we relive our time in Afghanistan, complete with paintball wars, walkie-talkies, and nicknames that would make even the sternest corporal crack a smile. We are bringing back memories, and not just the easy ones. Remember the nerve-wracking moments in the Hummvee? Or the extreme weather encounters and dangerous missions? We're going there, too. So, sit back, and let's navigate the funny yet terrifying moments of our military training together.

In the end, this is more than just a podcast episode; it's a tribute to our shared past, the friends we've lost along the way, and a look towards the future. As we remember Darnell and honor those who served alongside us, we invite you to join us on this trip down memory lane. Be prepared to experience a range of emotions, from laughter to nostalgia, and a sense of gratitude for the bonds forged in the line of duty. So, grab a cup of joe, get comfortable, and be prepared for a story-filled episode you wouldn't want to miss. Download, share, rate, and subscribe!

17_Semper Fi & America’s Fund with Jasper Heilig (Lead for Veteran 2 Veteran program and Veteran)

    Mission Statement:

Semper Fi and American’s Fund cares for our nation’s critically wounded, ill, and injured service members, veterans and the military families. Supporting all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, we provide one-on-one case management, connection, and lifetime support. Today, Tomorrow and Together.

Jasper is a Former Marine and Veteran that shares his experience in the military, how he found his way to Semper Fi and America’s Fund (The Fund). This is a great example of how first impressions can change your life. Jasper was so inspired by The Fund that he got out of the military and joined their cause.

When I asked him why, he said “I didn’t want to spend a day doing something I didn’t love.”

I hope you enjoy Jasper’s journey from Marine to the Veteran 2 Veteran program as much as I did. Seeing someone take action once they were able to see a purposeful direction forward for their life really hit home with me.  Jasper speaking from his personal experiences with PTSD helped me see new aspects to my process. He spoke about not being honest with himself and not doing the things he was telling others to do. This is something I saw in myself too. Once I was real with myself and consistently did the things I knew would help, my life changed for the better.
