The Regrets of a Football Maverick - with Terry Curran

The Regrets of a Football Maverick - with Terry Curran

Terry Curran is an English former professional footballer whose career lasted from 1975 to 1988.

Terry was an attacking midfielder who could also play as a winger, and as an out-and-out striker.

During his 13-year career, Terry Curran played for 16 football clubs, both English and European. So truly the original football journeyman, although he is known by Sheffield Wednesday FC supporters for his part in launching the clubs revival during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Brian Clough was wanting to sign him but was put off by the asking price of £140,000, so he controversially told Terry Curran's brother of his interest so Terry would not sign a new contract, thus reducing the transfer fee

He signed for Nottingham Forest in August 1975 for £50,000. In two seasons, he played 48 games, scoring 12 goals for Forest, helping them gain promotion to Division One in the 1976–77 season.

I remember that season well with Nottingham Forest going up to Division One with Wolves and Chelsea.

The following season Nottingham Forest won the First Division Championship and then won back to back European Champions League trophies, then of course the European Cup.

In October 2012, Terry Curran's autobiography, "Regrets of a Football Maverick", was published.

Terry also wrote another interesting book, ‘Gimme The Ball: My Take On The Beautiful Game’, which was published in September 2021. This fabulous book portrays Terry Curran as the Owls idol, which his was and still is, and shoots from the hip as the book explores the good, bad, and ugly sides of the 'beautiful game'. The book introduces, and discusses, the 'greats' including, GEORGE BEST, ALAN BALL and BRIAN CLOUGH, who or course inspired Terry Curran's own exciting, and unpredictable career, whilst also revealing Terry Curran's explosive, but close relationship with JACK CHARLTON.

A fabulous Podcast about a fooball genious.

Paddy Kenny | Neil Warnock’s ‘son’ & Big Sam criticises Simon Jordan, Jim White & Jamie Carragher

Paddy Kenny | Neil Warnock’s ‘son’ & Big Sam criticises Simon Jordan, Jim White & Jamie Carragher

In the latest episode of No Tippy Tappy Football, Big Sam and Natalie Pike are joined by former Premier League goalkeeper and the man nicknamed 'Neil Warnock's son', Paddy Kenny.

Sam, Natalie & Paddy dive deep into all things football, including the on-going Ramsdale-Raya saga at Arsenal and whether defenders prioritising passing is hurting the modern game.

The trio also discuss some of Paddy’s fondest memories of his time under Neil Warnock, in addition to building their ultimate Premier League goalkeeper and Sam provides an exclusive on the rumours that Chris Wilder is set to return to Sheffield United...

U.S. Soccer Great John Harkes and MLS Star Ian Harkes

John Harkes helped awaken soccer fever in the United States as captain of the US Men’s national team during the 1994 World Cup. His son Ian Harkes pursued the “family business,” and is currently playing for the New England Revolution in the MLS.

The Harkes boys talk with host Jon Frankel about the changes in how professional soccer players train now versus when John Harkes was on the pitch, and what it’s like to grow up in a family where everyone plays soccer for a living.

It's an unusual week here at Podcast Towers as ALL our football teams won something. We try not to gloat for too long, and quickly move on to review the best of the past couple of weeks of culture consumption.

We talk about new albums from Everything But The Girl, Sparks, Jessie Ware and Super 8. The new Blur album has animated vinyl! The Captain gives a hat tip to Wally Salem of The Beautiful Music for kindly sending in samples from that label. The Captain reads Bob Stanley's book on the birth of popular music, Let's Do It. El Tele casts an eye over a new book on mental health, Sort Your Head Out, by Sam Delaney.

We have another Downsizing episode, and we sadly say goodbye to Cynthia Weil, and Tony McPhee of the Groundhogs.

Bristol Rovers, Dixy Chicken, Big Sam and yards of sangria

Bristol Rovers, Dixy Chicken, Big Sam and yards of sangria

IT’S the last weekend of the regular season and The Buff is here once more to get you all excited for the play-offs.

Wanderers head to Bristol Rovers for a last game that may (or may not) matter, and by Sunday afternoon we will all know whether the semi-final will be against Sheffield Wednesday or Barnsley. We might even know what day the game will be played on, provided there are no more unnecessary changes.

It has been a big week of headlines in The Bolton News and we have seen Conor Bradley sweep the board at the end-of-year awards.

James Trafford has confirmed he’s definitely off – and we explain why we wish him all the best.

Marc and Henry wonder what surprises are in store in Bolton’s finances this summer and what Big Sam will do at Leeds United after his surprise return to management.

We have your emails, a check up on The Buff’s Fantasy League table and, of course, the preview to beat all previews as Wanderers travel to the Memorial Stadium.

It’s first not last, and not surpassed. It’s The Buff.

By the way - if you fancy taking up our subscription to The Bolton News, which is £6 for six months, then please follow THIS LINK!

This season we’ll be running a special Fantasy Football League for listeners of The Buff – and will be dishing out monthly prizes, plus recruiting some special guests to play against from the world of Wanderers.

And please, please leave a review. We work hard to put these episodes out every single week, in-season and out, and the more feedback we get, the better the product. Having said all that, we are currently only accepting five-star ratings, as all the other ratings are broken.

One week 'til Wembley - the officially excited podcast!

One week 'til Wembley - the officially excited podcast!

WEMBLEY beckons – and on The Buff we have found plenty to talk about in the build up to the Papa Johns Trophy final.

After an impressive performance at Sheffield Wednesday, all the focus has switched to Plymouth Argyle and a trip to the capital, so we break down all the latest news and headlines in the only way we know how (i.e. semi-seriously, and with limited footballing knowledge).

Marc and Henry talk cup final shirts, pre-match tours, why Brentford have already given Wanderers an assist and whether Darren Moore is the nicest bloke in the EFL.

We debate whether £10 is too steep for a matchday programme, if Josh Sheehan has timed his claim for a place in Bolton’s midfield perfectly and why Victor Adeboyejo is starting to look the real deal.

Your emails are read out in the Fil Morais postbag, there’s a classic game of Danny Shittu AND we remember to update the Fantasy League tables for once!

Don’t forget that next week we will be bringing you TWO special editions of The Buff to see you down to Wembley in style. On Friday we’ll be airing the regular episode (with maybe a little bit more razzle dazzle) but on Saturday morning it’s an all-singing, all-dancing Papa Johns Trophy special. Bring it on!

Moaning, groaning and the Hillsborough Superb Owl

Moaning, groaning and the Hillsborough Superb Owl

KEEP calm and carry on, Wanderers might have dropped to sixth and be heading to the league leaders Sheffield Wednesday but it’s not all doom and gloom!

Join Marc Iles and Henry Hewitt as we pick the bones of a defeat to Ipswich Town and wonder what went wrong, and what it might mean to the run-in, or even Wembley.

We hear from Ian Evatt, Gethin Jones and Conor Bradley in what has been a tough week for the Whites, which ends with a trip to Hillsborough to face an outstanding Owls side that has not been beaten in 22 games.

But it isn’t all bad. We examine the Bolton squad’s musical tastes – warning: Contains Taylor Swift – and revive our trademark Wanderers word game, Danny Shittu.

We read out your emails via the Fil Morais postbag and give our predictions on what might happen on Friday night.

Presenting: The Conor Bradley Appreciation Society

Presenting: The Conor Bradley Appreciation Society

WANDERERS are going well – and The Buff looks back on a positive week trying desperately not to get over-excited.

Marc Iles and Henry Hewitt pick through all the week’s headlines in The Bolton News analysing the draw at Port Vale and the win against Morecambe.

We look ahead to this weekend’s League One game against Sheffield Wednesday and the potential for a bumper crowd at the University of Bolton Stadium.

And just over the horizon, don’t forget that Premier League Aston Villa are on their way in the Carabao Cup. If you’re reading this Stevie G, bring it on!

Of course, we bring you the best of our listener emails, including some wi-fi talk and the possibility of Wanderers hitting the big screen.

We also bring back Six Degrees of Kevin Nolan. We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether it has been a success.

We also confirm that Conor Bradley is good. Very good, in fact.

The Official Buff League One prediction podcast

The Official Buff League One prediction podcast

WELCOME back to The Buff’s annual League One prediction extravaganza – and who we think will be riding high or sinking low this season.

Soothsayers Marc Iles and Henry Hewitt take out their crystal ball to see who will be struggling at Burton on windy Tuesday night, and which clubs will be on the beach by April.

The boys analyse some of the big headlines at Bolton Wanderers from the week and analyse the final pre-season friendly against Huddersfield Town.

There is a game-by-game breakdown of the summer to see what has gone right and what has gone wrong for Ian Evatt and his squad.

But most importantly we give our 1-24 predictions, safe in the knowledge that the podcast will be clipped and thrown back in our faces by fans of the clubs who exceed our expectations!
