This is Denise's second appearance on The Power Is Now Fair Housing Series to discuss the 1968 Fair Housing Act, its impact, and its progress over the past 55 years. The Fair Housing Act was passed after much debate and controversy in the Senate, and after Martin Luther King Jr.'s death, it finally became law in April 1968. Today, the homeownership rate for African Americans is around 45%, a small increase from 41% in 1968. Frazier and Mathis discuss the intent of the Fair Housing Act and its enforcement to make a difference in the lives of African Americans. Denise Matthis is the broker-owner of Dem Financial and Real Estate Services in San Diego. She is involved in various organizations and committees related to real estate and the community. Mathis shares her thoughts on the show's theme, "The Power Is Now," and emphasizes the importance of taking action in real estate as opportunities arise.
