Why Inflation Happens and Why Deflation is Worse: Explained by Financial Expert Steve Sosnick

Why Inflation Happens and Why Deflation is Worse: Explained by Financial Expert Steve Sosnick

Steve Sosnick and I discuss the concept of inflation and its impact on our economy. We explain how the increase in the amount of money being printed can lead to a decrease in the value of each dollar, which is known as inflation. Steve also highlights how the discovery of gold by the conquistadors in the early 1500s caused massive inflation due to the sudden influx of gold.

The conversation delves deeper into the reasons why inflation is necessary in a debt-driven world, as it incentivizes borrowing of money. However, excessive inflation can lead to a decrease in people's living standards and lenders becoming hesitant to keep lending too much money. On the other hand, deflation can be worse as it leads to paying back more money than you borrowed in real terms.

Understanding FDIC Insurance in the Fallout of SVB

Understanding FDIC Insurance in the Fallout of SVB

Steve Sosnick and I discuss the FDIC insurance threshold of $250,000 per account, which is meant to protect individuals but may not be enough for businesses with more funds. We question where the money to bailout the Silicon Valley Bank depositors will come from and what the ramifications may be in terms of insurance premiums on banks. In the short term, raising the insurance limit may stem runs on banks, but it also makes people wary of investing in stocks and bonds because those investors may not have the same protections as depositors.

Silicon Valley Bank Collapses: How it Happened and Who is to Blame?

Silicon Valley Bank Collapses: How it Happened and Who is to Blame?

Finance expert Steve Sosnick delves into the recent collapse of Silicon Valley-based bank, SVB Financial. He discusses how the bank's success led to its downfall, and how even the Federal Reserve and many other experts failed to predict its collapse.

I also shed light on how the bank's executives sold their shares before the collapse, leaving me wondering if they had any obligation to inform others and if any legal action can/ will be taken.

Steve also touches on the use of 10b1 PLANS and the potential legal liabilities for the executives. Sosnick also explains how the chairman of the bank lobbied for a rule change that allowed SVB Financial to avoid extra scrutiny and regulation as it approached $50 billion in assets. Tune in for a detailed breakdown of the factors that led to the downfall of this seemingly stable bank.

The Government's Plan to Retain Funds from SBV Collapse: Impact on Main Street, Banks, and Consumers

The Government's Plan to Retain Funds from SBV Collapse: Impact on Main Street, Banks, and Consumers

The discussion is about the government's plan to retain all the funds and the different ways they can do this: raise taxes, print money or have the banks pay for it. Will and Steve discuss the pros and cons of each option. They agree that letting the banks fail is not an option, but they also question the fairness of making the middle class pay for the banks' mistakes. Steve points out that the new insurance regime may require banks to pony up more money in insurance payments, which could be passed on to the consumer and businesses. They debate whether this is a reasonable tradeoff for a safer banking system.

Money is FAKE...Sort Of...but Not Really

Money is FAKE...Sort Of...but Not Really

In this video, Steve Sosnick and I delve into the fascinating world of money, credit, and debt. We explore how money used to be backed by gold or silver, but now it's linked to credit, which banks create by lending out more money than they actually have on hand. We discuss how this system works, and why it's able to function based on the trust people have in the banking system.

However, we also acknowledge that this system can collapse, and the consequences can be dire. A bank run can cause a shrinkage in the money supply, and potentially cause someone's assets to disappear or be severely impaired. The disappearance of money has to go somewhere, but it can also simply vanish into thin air.

So, let me ask you, is money real?
