Philosophy In Film - 065 - Avatar 2: The Way of Water

Episode 65 of the Philosophy In Film Podcast looks at the highly anticipated Avatar 2, and also hockey cards. As is our way, we work through all the familiar aspects of the show, including Producers' Notes (6:14), the Beauclair Synopsis (19:00), Philosopher's Corner (38:42), the Round Table Discussion (48:20), and, of course, the #Mailbag (1:46:33).  As always, we try to fit in a discussion of all the philosophical and non-philosophical aspects of the movie that caught our attention.

Logically Illogical: An Interview with Ros Blackburn and Sigourney Weaver - Special Release

Many of you may be aware of the fact that “Avatar: The Way of Water”, the follow up of the 2009 "Avatar", was just released. One of the stars is Sigourney Weaver, and we had the great pleasure of interviewing Sigourney with Ros Blackburn, a great friend of ours who is an autistic women from England. We invite you to listen again, or for the first time, to the episode we did with them.

We have a discussion with Ros Blackburn, an autistic friend, colleague and international speaker from the UK who speaks with great insight about her autistic experience. In Barry’s book, Uniquely Human, he shares so much of what he learned from Ros in their travel and presentations together, and Ros expands on her insights in today’s discussion with great humor and candor. We surprise Ros when we are joined by the world-renowned actress, Sigourney Weaver, who played an autistic woman in the film “Snowcake”. Sigourney modeled her role after Ros, and by sharing time together in the US and UK, they developed a valued friendship. Sigourney and Ros reflect on that time, and all they learned in the process.

    Ghostbusters II (1989)

    Ghostbusters II (1989)

We made it to Episode 300! This "Ghostbusters II" review has it all: Ash learns about New Coke; Gene learns he might not like young Bill Murray; Big D teaches us all about "Tears in Heaven;" and a plot summary is so ridiculous we can't stop laughing.

In our second discussion of the Ghostbusters franchise, the Shat Crew examines birthday packages, debates the quality of Vigo's painting, contrasts movie montages, dives deeper into the new Ghostbusters logo, weighs when it's OK to clean your host's apartment, discovers someone's been throwing out her partner's belongings and outlines the appropriate use of children in comedies.

    143: Aliens

    Alien (1979)

    Alien (1979)

Many '80s babies first met xenomorphs in 1986's "Aliens," but there just something special about the 1979 Ridley Scott masterpiece that started it all. It's more suspenseful, more thought-provoking, more groundbreaking. That doesn't mean we can't laugh at it. Face it: Mother is just a room of blinky lights, the ovamorphs look like lady parts, the crew of the Nostromo is hilarously reckless, and the chest-burster kinda resembles a demented Muppet.

Kicking off Hot Sauce Steve's 5 weeks of Shat The Movies commissions, "Alien" inspires the Shat Crew to discuss Disneyworld's Great Movie Ride, Ripley's choice in underwear, why dogs are better that cats in space, and sexy milk people.

    EP 81 - Aliens (1986) 5 Bucket List Episode!

The 5 Bucket List was just injected with equal shots of goo and hubris as James Cameron's 1986 action masterpiece Aliens joins the ranks.  Listen in as we talk through our memories of seeing this in the theater, why it was so well regarded then and still is spoken of in reverent tones today.  So keep it together Hudson, and remember that on LV-426, they mostly listen to TMI.....mostly. #tmiconfessionals #tmimovies #tmipodcast #aliens #1986 #jamescameron #sigourneyweaver #michaelbiehn #billpaxton #lancehenriksen #gameoverman
