On April 29, 1992, Los Angeles and the surrounding areas erupted into violent rioting, unlike anyone of this generation had seen. In the wake of the acquittals of the 4 LAPD officers who had beaten and kicked Rodney King more than a year earlier had set off a torrent of violence, attacks on innocent bystanders, looting, and arson that held Southern California under siege for 5 days. Rodney Glen King was caught speeding on the 210 freeway in the early morning hours of March 3, 1991. He led officers on a brief high speed chase until he was finally cornered at an intersection in Lake View Terrace. The LAPD took over command of the scene and 4 officers tased and beat Rodney a total of 56 times with their police batons, as well as kicks to the head and body. We are going to talk about who Rodney King was, what happened to the officers who were charged with use of excessive force, leading up to the events that occurred following the fallout of the trial of the 4 officers charged with using excessive force -
