"The Joy of Your Salvation": Laetare Sunday

"The Joy of Your Salvation": Laetare Sunday

On the Fourth Sunday of Lent the Church encourages us to rejoice.  The joy proper to Lent is the joy of repentance and of receiving God's mercy.  The prodigal son experienced this joy when he returned contritely to his father.  King David experienced it when he repented of his grave sins against Uriah.  Only by admitting our deep sinfulness will we experience the "joy of salvation" expressed in the psalms.  The recognition of our status as sinners takes nothing away from the awareness of our dignity and a proper self-regard.  God loves as and forgives us precisely as sinners.

    Christ, Humanity and Salvation

    Christ, Humanity and Salvation

A devotional study about the nature of Christ -- particularly His humanity -- and what this means to our salvation.  This is a topic that requires much prayer, and is often the source of much controversy.

    Hebrews 2:16-18 KJV
For verily He took not on Him the nature of angels; but He took on Him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, He is able to succour them that are tempted.

    Romans 5:12,19 KJV
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
    ...
For as by one man's disobedience MANY were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

    Facing the Reality of Sin
We can't understand Jesus as the Savior if we don't acknowledge that we have something to be saved from- our sin. Dave “Prideful Self-Exaltation” VanVickle and I discuss why we need to face the reality of sin if we truly want to live in the freedom of Christ. Snippet from the Show "Every offering of grace is a promise that your sin does not define you eternally." We want to hear from you! Whole New World, Same Old Purpose (1 Samuel 12)

Whole New World, Same Old Purpose (1 Samuel 12)

Samuel bridges the gap in a massive shift in Israel's history between the time of the Judges and the time of the Kings.  God's people are about to enter a whole new world.  There will be negative consequences of this new world, but there will also be the same loving God with the same loving purposes.  Everything is about to change, but really, nothing is changing at all.  There's a message there for us, as we enter a post-COVID world.

The Holiness of God (Part 3)

The Holiness of God (Part 3)

Though we are naturally strangers to holiness, God has not kept it in secrecy. We turn again to 1 Peter 1. God's love is a holy love and drives Him to relationship. He desires to re-establish the relationship that was broken by sin. God made a way for it to be as though sin never happened. A way according to His holiness, His goodness, His justice, His mercy, His longsuffering, His mercy, His love.

The Holiness of God (Part 1)

The Holiness of God (Part 1)

Join us as we look at holiness in 1 Peter 1. Holiness is something that is difficult for us as people to understand, even on an intellectual level, because we are such strangers to it. Naturally, we are all born into sin. We all go back to Adam. He fell, we were part of his seed, so we fell.

God is inherently holy. We are inherently sinful.

    Sin

    Sin

As an extension of the previous podcast on Forgiveness, Pastor Dan Smail and Wendy Farone discuss the topic of sin. What is it really? How does Jesus dying on the cross take away my sins? We discuss the 7 'deadly sins' but also the 7 virtues which are meant to counteract these negative forces in our lives. God is not setting us up for failure but giving us the tools to live a rich and meaningful life.
