We also tie the film’s themes pretty tightly to her recent YA horror novel, Dead Flip, which is set in the late 80s and early 90s and revolves around a possibly haunted pinball machine. 

We get into the pop-culture of cursed objects and cursed capitalism, how nostalgia can be used for both good and evil, why certain story-tellers of the past might have gotten burned out, and finally, how we, as working writers, try to stop that from happening with our own creative practices.

Having begun as an underwater archaeologist, she ended up as an 'underground astronaut' squeezing through the claustrophobic passageways of South Africa's Rising Star Cave, site of a massive cache of bones belonging to hominid, Homo naledi.

In this episode, Arnie and Fred begin discussing the trials Jesus was subjected to in the Jews attempts to falsely charge Him of violating Moses Law. We talk about their attempts that resulted in getting false witnesses to perjure themselves. Initially, Jesus was dragged before 2 Jewish High Priests. On each occasion He was beaten at some point during the questioning. He was also brought before Pontius Pilate twice. We discuss the results of those meetings and what Pontius Pilate concluded from them. Again, He was beaten severely. Jesus also had a hearing before Herod Antipas the Tetrarch of Galilee. We look at that meeting and note again that Jesus was beaten.  We end our discussion of Jesus' crucifixion by noting what Isaiah said concerning Jesus' physical condition when He was placed on the cross. We begin our discussion of Jesus' resurrection by noting Matthew's account of what the angel at the tomb and Jesus later said to the first witnesses. We will pick up the rest of this subject at the next episode. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. Nothing hurts like losing someone you love due to death, divorce, or separation.
Similar feelings often surface after a major life change such as job loss or a move. The ache inside can feel as if your soul will crush under the weight of a deep, paralyzing sorrow. The dull sadness often bleeds into denial or anger. Grief is unpredictable, affecting each of us in slightly different ways. While it may not ease the pain, understanding that grief is normal can help us cope a little better when we lose a special person or go through a significant change.

HOW GRIEF FEELS

If you feel like you are losing your grip on reality, you might be a perfectly sane person enduring the confusion of grief. Perhaps you suffer irrational fear, dread or even paranoia. You may feel empty or numb like you are in shock. Grief even causes some people to experience trembling, nausea, breathing difficulty, muscle weakness, loss of appetite or insomnia. Feelings of anger can also surface, even if there is nothing in particular to be angry about. Almost everyone tortures themselves with guilt by asking what they did wrong, how they might have prevented the loss, or some other form of self-condemnation. In short, grief makes us feel like our emotions have gone haywire because, in many ways, they have. Over time, however, you will regain a measure of equilibrium.
